Finally started my shortblock **UPDATE**
I got tired of staring at all of these parts...well, that and I'm tired of hearing about all of the local guys out having fun on Saturday nights while my car's down and out.
I took a few pics for your enjoyment...
...used an old piston to square the rings in the bore
...notice how the bevel is on opposite sides of the bearing halves? make sure you don't get them mixed up when placing them in the rod end!
...always check your oil clearances...getting a different sized bearing to meet your needs is easy at this point...not the case after the engine is in the car and you have low oil pressure...
...I'll keep you guys posted on the rest of the build up. Should be out playing soon

I got a chance to tinker with my motor again. I installed the cam and timing set, then mocked up the top end to check for pushrod length.
I started out with a couple of old lifters and tacked the plungers so they won't compress...
...then used checker springs and a pushrod length checker to come up with my numbers before lifter preload...
...I come up with 7.260" gauge length with the pushrod checker. Now, with standard length pushrods I could go with 7.325 for .065" of preload...or I could go with 7.350 for .090" of preload. What would any of you guys recommend? I'll be running LS7 lifters and .600" lifts...
