Knock Sensors are toast: Why?
Okay, so the car is off the road for a heads/cam install and I decided to take apart everything a little in advance. I wanted to inspect the valley. So in the process of removing it I found that the knock sensors are completely corroded/burnt. They have an odd smell to them. Not only that, but they was some junk at the bottom of the tubes. I'm glad I vacuumed it before I pulled it off. Anyone know the cause of this? I'm going buy new sensors and a harness anyways. FWIW the tubes seemed to be sealed well.

I washed off this engine once or twice, but not an excessive amount of water. I washed my Camaro's engine a lot of times and when I pulled the sensors they were spotless. So... maybe somehow it was getting in there... or the previous owner drenched it.
