Default cam help needed please (patrick G and predator Z please chime in)

I just recently purchased a 2000 C5. the only mods done is a twin cone air filter.

Im looking to do a heads and cam package. My ultimate goal is to have a torque monster. "area under the curve" with stock like driveability/street manners.

I have read a lot of your posts and you guys know your Sh*t very well.

im looking to keep the stock exhaust (dont want headers, midpipe or catback) but i will put cutouts on it. other mods will include ported ls6 manifold, ported tb, vararam.

As far as the heads are concerned.....im looking at either the PRC stage 2.5 5.3L heads or the Stage 3 Ported Ls6 heads.

WHAT CAM WOULD YOU RECOMMEND (DURATION, LIFT, ICL, LSA, OVERLAP, ADVANCE, ETC.) FOR THIS COMBO.

i'd be happy with about 430 rwhp give or take ~ 10 rwhp and over 410 rwtq

hope i was specific enough and hope that this goal can be achieved.

PS: the most ideal combo will result in 440rwhp/430 rwtq with stock driveability and good gas mileage when im not romping on it.

thank you everybody for thier recommendations

You should PM Pat, he can set you up with a cam spec sheet where you outline your EXACT (99.9%) goals for the car. After looking around a lot and changing my mind over and over and over... I figured I'd have something spec'ed for me to suit my needs. Good luck, that's pretty much my goal too.

Good luck hitting those numbers with stock manifolds and catback with stocklike drivability.

It is possible, I hit 402/412 in a Auto C5 with stock manifolds, my custom XE cam + bolt ons and tuning.

The heads I can tell you right now, will have to be AFR 205s and the cam, I can give to you but on XFI lobes, with a tight quench, X pipe and free flow catback, 85mm MAF and 90/90 your goals are very achievable.

and you'd have to have it dyno'd on a friendly dyno-jet. (they read 20-30hp high imo)

my whole reasoning behind keep the stock exhaust is because i love the way the stock vette sounds...i also would like the muscle car sound....thats why i opted for the cutouts. i want to have my cake and eat it too.

im assuming that the cutouts would supliment the x pipe and catback. correct me if im wrong

i read that a ported ls6 manifold will give you just as much as a 90/90. again please correct me if im wrong.

the stage 3 ported ls6 heads wouldnt compare to the AFR 205's as far as flow numbers are concerned ?

just trying to make it as affordable as possible considering i am only 21.

thanks again guys.

Flow number don't mean all. The AFR chmber design, runner design, velocity capability is still very difficult to match.
Cutouts will make you gain a little peak HP but in general you loose trq, especialy on the type of cam needed to achieve the goals you have set.

still would like to keep the stock exhaust.......maybe just maybe i'll get a Ti catback

anyhoo sooo tell me about this cam....cuz im curious lol

it's cool if i end up making less hp.....i just want the torque to be above 400 thats all

im sorry im being a pain in the *** for you guys

thanks a lot i appreciate the help

The cam is 210/224 .595/.600 115+1 LSA

-13* overlap so stock like idle.
Big exhaust split to run stock manifolds
39 IVC for ~ 6000 peak (6300 shifts)
48 EVO for good midrange trq

This is a carbon copy of my original but on XFI lobes for even more undercurve power and trq

Lobes used are 3012 intake and 3035 exhaust (Comp cam)

This is to be run with .040 Cometic gaskets and out of box 66cc AFR

7.450 p-rods.

It would be preferable to degree the cam, I would purchase it from Thunder Racing since you get a cam report with every cam.

Fresh lifter recommended (Comp 850-16) or LS7

Springs recommended are the dual AFR Golds.

LS6 intake/ported TB/ and fine dyno tuning will yield the results you seek.

I made 411 rwhp/388 rwtq with the TR 215/230 .600/.578 117LSA CheaTR cam.

Mods were AFR 205s, FAST 90/90, CheaTR cam, UD pulley, stock manifolds, and SLP dual dual catback.
