What does it matter? There fixed parts that don't move. They don't need a specific clearence. Pick up tube to oil pan is a different story.

my buddy and i had the same problem with his 6.0 block on ls6 heads= with everything 408, we were also concerned since it looks so close, we ended up using a couple of small washers on the windage try, and we VERY slightly moved the tube wih a prybay, just dont over do it...

The oil pan to pick up clearence? When you space the windage tray to clear the rod bolts, you obviouslly move the pick up tube closer to the bottom of the oil pan. If it is to close, you will not get sufficent oiling. In the average case were the builder uses the ARP spacers, it isn't an issue. The OP posted about the tube to windage tray clearence. These are fixed pieces that do not move. They don't have to "clear" anything, so there isn't a clearence to be set.

I just finished the pickup tube and windage tray on my 408. I had to bend the pickup, after I heated it with a torch, in 3 different places to get the fit right. Most important, is to clay the pickup itself and check for clearance. Erik, at HK Enterprises who built my short block says you need a minimum of .275. Also I had to grind the windage tray where the lower tray bulges for the oil level sensor. FWIW I Loctited all the windage tray nuts.

Quick Reply: is this enough clearance from windage tray to pick up tube????
