thinking about putting ls6 cam and heads on my ls1
i wanna know will i feel a nice difference,, how many extra horses will i pick up by just doin that and will i have to get m tuned...

Check my sig. I also strongly recommend a larger cam over the LS6. My 220/220 drives just as well as stock if not better(after tune). Might at well just go for a 224 cam at minimum while you're in there.

Don't waste your time putting stock heads or a stock cam in your car. Do it right the first time. For budget minded people, I'd suggest Patriot Performance 243 casting heads with stock valves (no piston to valve clearance issues) milled to about 62ish cc's (maybe more) and at least a TR224 on 112. This is safe setup that should get you a little more than 400 to the ground.

It's highly suggested though. A tune can never hurt, providing that you go to a knowlegeable shop. Lots of guys on the tech drive head/cam cars untuned for great lengths of time. But the truth is - with every mod you install, there is still something left on the table without a tune.

Expected fuel consumption is directly proportionate to your ability to keep your foot off the accelerator.
Tuning is always recommend, even if you are BONE STOCK. GM leaves some HP on the table, and if you are good you can get it back.

i just bought some LS6 heads, now i'm saving up for some porting to be done and then i'll pick a cam...... get a tune no matter what, your car will run so much better and like said above, you will pick up extra horses

Depends on the car really. With mass production engines, it's really weird. Maybe 10, maybe 30. I know that the 4.2L in the Trailblazer has about 40 hanging around in it.
You turn off torque management, tweak the timing tables, run 93 octane. GM has two timing tables, Hi and Low. It goes between the two dynamically. So you narrow the range between the two and keep the timing up. Wa-la, instant horsepower.

Sweet. I plan on putting the car on a dyno in two weeks. Maybe I can get a tune after that. Thanks for the info.

No problem. I would tell you to look into getting yourself an HP Tuners setup if you are really that into the idea.
Same goes for the original poster of this thread. Get tuned, do it yourself if you are up for it. There are plenty of resouces available to assist you.

I'd like to. What does that HP Tuners setups consist of?? Something I would use with my laptop or is it stand alone?? Could it clear my SES code from removal of the AIR system as well?
