Default Valve spring seat pressure

What is the best way to check this? Is there a tool for it? Thanks for any input.

The installed height can be used to figure it out. I found all the valve springs I have checked new conformed to the advertised numbers within the accuracy of the equipment.

So you are saying that they should be OK as long as the installed height is very close to 1.80" in my case (224/228 cam with XE-R lobes)?

I think you will find your installed height is not 1.8, but less than that. You asked about the seat pressure, installed height and spring values can be used to compute the installed pressure. What I was saying was the off head spring measurements I have taken conformed very well to the advertised values so that a height micrometer to measure installed height would give you a pretty accurate measurement of the seat pressure.

Keep in mind that after so many miles, RPM, etc that valve springs can lose their pressure...and those formulas go out the window somewhat...there is a tool/machine that can test them. If I recall correctly, you can send them to ThunderRacing and they can test them for you (don't quote me on that, you might call them to check).

Agree. My method would be applicable for a new setup. If you are re-checking, then you either need to disassemble or use one of the arms that grabs the rockers and compresses the spring.

Thanks for the info Matt. I will keep this in mind when I get some miles on the springs. I will need to find one of those tools then.
