Rod Bolts: HP related, RPM related, or Wear and Tear related??
heres my situation, i have a 99 T/A with about 100k on the clock. motor has been maintained very well its whole life and still have between 240-250 psi of compression across the board. im getting ready to through a nitrous kit on it and will only spray about 75-100 hp maybe once a month (car barely sees 2k miles per year). right now im sitting at 410 hp and 390 ftlbs so the 100 shot should put me somewhere around the 500-520 hp and 500 ftlbs. i shift at 6400 rpms with the limiter at 6600 rpms
are rod bolts necessary for this setup, i just have to make sure im as careful as possible. (nitrous kit will have window switch and fpss, i will retune the car to fatten up the a/f and pull some timing as well)
thanks

Many people have done that (or worse) and had their motor live for a while. Its up to you if the piece of mind is worth the time and effort. Your rod bolts are definately weaker than later year cars, so it might make sense. Then again, rod bolt failure is usually due to RPM, not the higher cylinder pressures of nitrous use.

I'd say you're fine at 6400, that seems to be the general consensus with the older rodbolts. 6500+ is asking for trouble or so I'm told. Currently I'm taking my chances with the 6400 shifts myself.

its 6 of one half a dozen of another... Its not a 98 motor, but at the same time like they said you dont wanna lose ur motor... unless of course your planning on something bigger/better in the near future
