will they fit a stock unmodified head or will the head need machined?

the 99893 are not for ls1
http://cranecams.com/index.php?show=...&lvl=3&prt=123
they are for
Chevrolet Big-Block
Chrysler-Dodge-Plymouth Big-Block
Ford Big-Block

what you are looking for are the 144833 which are not listed on their webpage. yes, they will fit on stock heads without modification. i am using them. bought them from vinci high performance.

AMC V-8; Chevrolet Big-Block w/1.880" installed height

again, the correct part number is 144833 for the newest designed dual springs for LSx motors.

If you had three of the Crane 883's fail, it is the first failure I have ever heard of. What springs are you talking about?

Curious myself. I'm currently running Crane 833's and haven't had any issues. Great spring!

I had these for 7000 miles with a .610 lift cam and ran in up to 7000rpm and they are still in great shape!

Just because they aren't listed as LS1 springs doesn't mean they won't work on LS1's....

a #99893-16 springs are 1.460 OD., and will not fit in a stock ls1 spring pocket without maching done to head. they also will require different retainers as well. if you want a spring with close to similar pressures open/close, the #144833-16 will give you this and is a direct ls1 replacement with no maching required, but does use a different retainer though, or try there behive #99831-16 spring, it drops right in with similar pressures and uses stock retainers.

anything can fit, if you want to do the work to make it fit.

don't know why he would suggest a spring that will require modification to the heads to fit, when there is a suitable spring that does not require any machining. then you have to find a retainer for the 1.460 diameter dual spring and for 8mm valve stem. big block valves are 11/32 stems, if i recall correctly.

well, the 99893 are good for .710 with .060" clearance. might want to get with patrick g and see what retainer will fit those springs and 8mm valve stem. you will need to remove the heads and have the spring pockets enlarged to fit a 1.460" diameter spring. if you cannot find a retainer to meet those specs, then you'll need to go with 11/32" valves. this will require the guides to be enlarged to fit those as well.

the 144833 springs are good for .650 lift. when the machine shop was putting my springs on and asked about what height i wanted, he said i have plenty of room to .700" lift before coil bind became an issue.

here's the specs for the 144833 springs off of vinci's website:

160 lbs @ 1.750
400 lbs @ 1.150
will handle .650 lift with ample coil clearance

The 99893 springs will work but it will take a little extra machining to use them . I had a PSI spring with nearly identical spring dimensions except the spring had higher pressures everywhere . There are retainers which will still allow the use of 8mm valves . I looked @ the 99893 but I didn't know much about who actually made the spring and the quality . Competition Products buys the same spring in bulk and saves you a little money . You should look @ Ferrea valve springs , they have some nice drop in springs that will handle upward of .700 lift depending on your installed height and have the pressure , just make sure your lifters are up to the task . I hope you wouldn't use that much lift , spin it high , and expect stock lifters to live . I found the Ferrrea's to be priced a little high (prices from CV Products which aren't great but they have a lot of everything) but they're available and drop in without machining which can save money and time if you were just going to swap cam & valvetrain . If you need anymore info PM .
