230/230 .591/.591 Ok on Stock Heads?
I'm buying this cam(230/230 .591/.591 110 lsa) since i got a good deal on it and I tought it would be ok to just put it right in my car with the stock heads. But a couple of people said I should do a clay test which I don't want to do. But I figured the G5X2 is in a cars with stock heads so I thought it would be ok. So basically will this fit with my setup?

It is too big for my tastes... you better have some SERIOUS springs to hold that monster cam down.
Good luck.

The cam will work very well, and you'll probably peak by 6200-6300 and fall off around 6700.
Use the REV dual valvesprings, you'll be fine.

Re: 230/230 .591/.591 Ok on Stock Heads?
Jantzer, for a relative new comer with stock heads and not a lot of tech expericance... no i would not recommend a cam that big.
Do i like the X1 for a mostly strip..little street car? One that has heads, headers, programming, etc, etc... sure. But for most fellas on this board? Guys who need a cam that can still get good gas mileage and can make it with out tuning if they had too, guys who might want to pass a sniffer, or might not have a lot of gear or converter. Nope... for those guys i would not recommend so large a cam as a X1, or a 230/230.
And not for guy who was not going to spend some serious coinage on some killer springs.
But hey, thats just my opinion.

you will for sure need to up grade springs and I would second the vote for REV duals. the stock springs are not going to hold that cam. also you are going to get a very lopey idle and will need to bump up your rpms and drill the TB blade or you will have idle quality issues

Yea I already know i need I need better springs. I'm getting the Rev's. I just need to know if it will fit with out flycutting the pistons. Also I want it to lobe hard thats why I'm getting it. One more thing is I don't need to pass emissions either.

I don't think you would need to flycut the pistons with stock heads that haven't been shaved. But if the main thing you want is a hard lope, why not go with a Hotcam and leave the idle speed at about 750? It will lope like hell, save you a ton of cash, and be more reliable. Even with some special springs on that monster cam, you will still have to change them out every 15,000 miles or so or risk breaking one.

No don't want the hotcam. It dosen't make enough power. I want this cam because it will peak low unlike the TR Reverse split. I'm hopeing to get around 400 rwhp cam only. I just need to now for sure that I will be safe just to but the cam in without doing a clay test.

I'm running a 227/227 .599/.599 on a 110 with 918s. I only plan on putting 5000 miles on them or so and getting the heads machined for some 978s.

That is a Raging Motorsports 230 Cam. I agree with Raughammer it's too big for a car that's not going to be used to race on the Strip or Street 90% of the time. If you like driving your car on the street a lot don't get that cam.

Re: 230/230 .591/.591 Ok on Stock Heads?
I want to know why everybody is so against this cam. I was looking into the X1,F1 or TR 230. But like I said earlier I got a good deal on this cam and I would like to be different from other people. It seems like everybody has 224/224 cam. Also the car is not daily driven but I do drive it a lot on the street. Also I have LS1 edit so it will be dyno tuned. I've seen a 224/224 110 LSA car and seemed to drive fine and he still had the stock gears. But still does anybody know for sure if this will be alright in the P/V clearence area.

Do not base your decision by what you read on here. From what I see, most of these replies are OPINIONS, not necessarily facts...
FWIW, I run a 230/230 .595 cam in my car, and I wouldn't hesitate to put this cam in a stock headed car. Why the hell are people running GSX2 cams in stock headed cars if this 230/230 is to big? The GSX2 is MUCH bigger, which completely blows out the theory of it being to much for stock heads.
Go for it dude, a good exhaust, good tune, and solid motor should get you 400 rwhp with this cam and stock heads.

Re: 230/230 .591/.591 Ok on Stock Heads?
i am one of the first raging 230/230 cam (111 lsa here) and it is in my autmatic car. with some tweaking and good programing (and after i got all the bugs out of my car) the car idles awesome! no surging, no dying. now my idle is set now at 925 rpms but still it is great. now it is very aggressive for a daily street car and i recommend something tamer for someone that doesnt want to deal with teh big lumpy cam, but for a fun street car, it is great. i believe it is more of a track cam but it really hammers on the street as well. i havent dynoed my auto setup but another customer with an auto, big convertor, and stock heads made 380+ rwhp. not bad i think. i ran 116+ at +450 DA in my heavy car.

Well I knew there was some of you out there that weren't scared of that cam. Hell you guys even have A4's and your running that cam. Did you all do a clay test before firing her up for the first time?

Hot cam is better than most think..
We just did a 02 Camaro with Hot cam,FLP's,4.10's,pulley,no cats and a lid.
Tuned in it made 370RWH/365RWT threw a duel/duel and the best part is it peaks at 6100.
Its a nice street/strip setup with some lope.
And cheap to boot..
