Unhappy milling ls6 heads ?

I just got a set of stock ls6 heads and I was wanting to get them milled, have them ported and polished, bigger valves and all that good stuff. Will I be ok at 11:1 on pump gas and will I have any problems with ptv clearance using tsp torquer v.3 cam. 231/234 643/598 111 lsa Any info is greatly apreciated, thank you.

I'm 11.5:1 and I run 93 octane pump gas with no problems.

On the PTV clearance, It depends on the size of the valves and how much you get the heads milled.

Can you give us more info?

You should really call TSP. But with TSP's stg2.5 5.3 heads, I believe that they told me that you could mill up to 0.015" with a TV3 and I think that you should probably be able to mill more with just stock LS6 heads. But, all of this is dependent upon what kind of PTV clearance that you want to run.

But as far as compression ratio, you will definitely be ok with 11:1, I would go even a little higher if your PTV allows it.

I was going to send the heads to TEA to have them reworked to their stage 2. 2.04/1.575 valves .650 double springs. I think stock the heads are 65cc. I'd like to make it to about 425 at the wheels, you think its possible with this setup?

With a 65cc chamber you should be fine.

Always check PTV though.

I am thinking of doing the same thing execpt sticking with the stock vlaves, so milling between .015 and .02 is doable with the stock valves?

Mine have stock valves and are .015 down with a cometic .040 gasket. Total of .030" off and I've been fine on premium gas w/ 11.5:1 compression also.

Always check PTV clearance though.

Whats the best way to check the PTV clearance? Is it by removing the head puting clay on the pistons and reassemble the head and give it a couple of turns, then check the distance on the clay for the PTV clerance.
Then get the heads milled accordingly or is there and easier way of doing it.

You're better staying with the stock valves. Here's why, the aftermarket valves actually stick into the combustion chamber more than the stock valves do. This alone decreases piston to valve clearance. Add into the mix a larger diameter valve, now you're even closer to the piston. Now you mill the head, go to a thinner gasket, and voila, you may have PtoV issues.

This may not be a problem is you are running valve springs with a lot of seat pressure to control the valve, but a little bit of valve float and you could kiss a piston. Ask me how I know...lol. I was running springs with not enough seat pressure and kissed the rev limiter one time too many and broke a spring. When I pulled the heads, all of the intake valves had slight contact with the pistons. I plan on pulling both heads and having the pistons notched so I can run an 0.040" gasket as opposed to the stock 0.060" gaskets.

If you can deal with flycutting, definately go for some TEA heads. They are super nice people and the service is great. I will be installing mine in a few weeks!

I milled my heads and put the gasket on and heads (tight but not close to torque) and checked w/ clay. This was after everything was done. Mine showed to be good. I had a few pistons with notches in them from the stock heads/cam. Guessing due to 6200rpm and weak springs. Maybe floated a valve and made contact. I have pics around here somewhere.

Also I thought stock gaskets were .055, not positive on that however.
