Help! No Oil Pressure On New motor
I have no oil pressure on my new motor. I just got through building it and putting it in the car. It is a new ls6 oil pump. I thought that was the problem so I replaced it and the o ring and nothing. Its not making its way to the valve covers at all so its not the sending unit being bad. Anyone have any ideas? I have never seen anything like it before.

For you to have to oil pressure at all youve gotta be missing a oil passage plug in the front or rer of the engine or something simular. To be able to bleed off 30psi of oil pressure youve gotta have one hell of a leak.

1. Have you verified that the dumbbell plug is properly in place in the back of the main oil journal and that the small "freeze plug" is in place in the front of the main oil journal/galley?
2. Did you fill the oil filter with oil?
3. Have you started the engine or are you just cranking it?
4. Is the oil pump flush against the block making a good seal?
5. Do you have the correct O ring on the oil pickup tube?

Here are some pictures I took about a year ago for a thread identical to this. If search would work, you could find dozens of threads on this same subject. Anyway, here are the pictures. I took them of a block that was upside down and then inverted the pictures 180 degrees and added the labels.

Left side of Block

Are you saying that you have pulled the engine and pulled the flywheel and rear cover off the engine and the front (timing) cover off to verify that the plugs are there?
We're not talking about the two exterior plugs on the left side of the block.
Reply to this question, and we'll go from there.

1999ssls1,
Take a break. I'm working on an answer for you. I've scanned some pages out of my factory maintenance manual that I'll post in a little while. I'll also write out a few step by step troubleshooting suggestions, but I've got to do a few other things right now.
It's good to take a break anyway. Sometimes you can get so tired and frustrated you'll screw things up (been there, done that). You'll get this worked out!

You have to love ls1tech. Im putting an engine together right now also. There have been so many questions and all my answers come off this site. Dont worry this forum will not let you down. Did you actually start the motor at one time and it read 0?
