6800rpm on stock bottom end?
Is it risky if the guy im looking to buy the car from has been spinning his bottom end to 6800 rpm. the car has upgraded springs and titanium retainers and chromoly pushrods which is all good im just worries about the bottom end. this is the list of modifications: pacesetter lt headers Y pipe catback Torquer V2 cam on a 112lsa, comp prc double spring kit, chromoly hardened pushrods, ported ls6 oil pump, rollmaster double roller timing chain, yank ss4000 stall, b&m tranny cooler. The car is a 1998 Formula with 91k miles

98's are one of the years with the "weaker" rod bolts. You should spin it past 6200 very often if you want to be safe. So YES, it is bad that the guy is reving up to 6800, very bad...

Or you could lift the motor drop the pan and put in arp rod bolts. There is a write up some where on how to do it.
*edit* I think they drop the kmember out of the way so you can get the pan out...not lift the motor.

I think the majority of spun bearings is due to oil starvation. A lot of people have complained about dropping oil pressure at high rpms. I read an SAE paper about ls1's and it said oil tends to accumulate in the top end of the motor leaving the oil pan sucked dry. My car would do it when the oil got older and dirtier. After an oil change it was fine.
If the engine sounds good its probably ok. I wouldnt pay a lot for the car though.

I have a 2000 (see sig) and LG advised me that 6800 rpms was about the extent I wanted to push my car. 6700 would be wiser, so for sake of not blowing the motor I try to stay off the rev limiter and shift at 6650-6700 only when racing obviously. I granny shift when not racing. LOL

I'd be a lil leery about buying someone elses beat on anything. But it's your call.

if your getting a good enough deal on the car just install the rod bolts ?
he did the LS6 oil pump and full valve train it sounds like just take it the other step and you should be okay.
