Default Anyone use GM yellow springs on a TR224

Any one been using the GM yellow LS6 springs #12586484 on the TR224 cam. I have a 2000 Ls1 f-bod, would like to use the factory springs (drop-in) if I'am not pushing my luck with this cam/spring combo. Not planning on taking it past 6000 (rest of motor is stock)

Thanks, Gary

I wouldn't do it, but it's your car. You might be ok with the TR224 being a .563 lift instead of .581, but I'd still opt for stronger springs for a couple reasons. For one you wouldn't have to worry by upgrading the springs yet again if you snap a stock spring & you would have better valve control with the stiffer springs.

Look into the Patriot Gold Duals kit. Thats what I run on my 224/.581 cam & I love them. Comes with everything you need to completely upgrade the springs. Your also gonna want to look into a set of 7.400" Chromemoly pushrods.

i can't remember the exact max lift on those springs( thinking .550 or so) but i would get some comp 918 or equivalent. single spring that will handle .600" lift and they should last awhile with that cam. comp was having problems with the 918 with a bad batch but i'm sure they have it ironed out by now.

I have head that they were having trouble with the 918's which was why I was going to try the factory springs. The factory Yellow springs have a good record of dependability in ASA racing. But it looks like I need to keep looking at options

you dont just want to look at lift, but ramp rates of the two cams, the tr224 is going to ramp up much faster with the xe lobes than the gm lobes.

i wouldn't go with those springs - i think your best bet to go with patriot "golds" dual springs. complete kit w/ locks, retainers, bases and valve seals.

Speedinc stocks these $249.99 shipped.

Everyone thinks LS6 springs don't break but I've see 3 broken yellow springs on 3 different Z06 Vettes in the last 2 years. All 3 cars had bone stock LS6s in them.

Another option may be the PAC-1518 springs (also a 1218 available). The 1218 are the same as the original 918's (the ones that didn't seem to break) and the 1518 are nitride coated. They both are a single spring beehive design and can use your stock retainers. I just swapped in a set for my Crane 1.8 rockers and had no problems. I was able to get mine for $220 shipped. Whatever you do, I would definitely upgrade the springs as others have said.

Why pay $220 shipped for a single coil spring set only when you can get a full dual spring kit thats stronger & comes with new everything spring related for only $30 more??

actualy it is not the lift issue but seat pressures due to the fast ramp of the TR which is like 50 IIRC.

You could shim LS6 yellows to .050 coilbind and run them but live will be shortened.
918 or equivalent like PAC springs would be my choice.

Just checked out the PAC site, looks like I'm going with the PAC 1218.

Got the COMP push rods allready.

Thanks for the help,
