Default Mobil 1?!?!?

Yea, it just hit me...my 120k motors bearings took a huge ****, they got burnt COMPLETELY through. I have never let the oil run low, and have changed it every 2500 miles. I honestly think that the Mobil 1 caused the end of my motor....As soon as I put it in, about 3 years ago, motor got a bit louder, but always ran smooth...so I never payed any mind.

Looks like i'm going with something new for my forged motor.

If you don't want to run the Mobil 1 try using German Castrol Synthetic 0w30. You don't need to change your oil that often with synthetic oil. Most people will take it to 4-6k before they change it out.

Yea....I don't trust that ahha, i'll spend the extra money and change it every 2500-3000. Something just feels wrong about keeping it in there for 5000.

What weight and type of Mobil 1 oil were you using? Just curious.

Not to say that you did this, but it blows me away how so many people think that they can run a 0w- oil and rev the **** out of their LSx engine with no adverse affects. I just got done reading a bunch of oil related threads and was curious. Thats all. Good luck with your new shortblock bro. Keep us posted.

Forgot to include: I run Mobil1 15w50 Extended Performance and a Mobil1 filter.

You're one of few who think that way then. Changing out synthetic oil before 5K miles is the biggest waste.

it might be the biggest waste if you daily drive the car, but if the oil has seen 7k more than several times within that 3k miles, it time to change it. but i could be wrong

If you really kept the oil level where it should be, I dont think the oil is the cause of your spun bearing. Lost of people report that their motors are louder on M1. Its increased pistons slap since M1 is on the thinner end of the 30 wt spectrum. Anyway, M1 in and of itself is not a reason to cause spun bearings. more likely a mechanical issue like the oil pump, stretching rod bolts, etc.

Dude, M1 did not ruin your engine, whatever ppl may say about any oil being better, you have other issues with your motor. I have used M1 and so have others here with great success. Do other oils offer less wear? Maybe. But using M1 is not going to cause catastrophic failure.

It didn't cause any catastrophic failure...the motor was running fine when I took it out. Made no noise, ran strong as hell......when I went to do my rod bolts I checked the bearings and noticed they were horrible.

139,000 and counting with only M1 since it was new. No engine problems ever, no leaks, noises, or the like, and I occasionally run it hard too. Now my tranny, that is another story....

lol...i had a buddy with the same situation 160k on the car when the engine blew (to much spray) but it ran damn strong up until it went boom...on the other hand by 160k miles he had gone thru 6 trannies....He just loves the spray and doesnt beleive in window switches. and im talking constantly spraying not just at the track.....that car took a beating and he definatey got his moneys worth out of it.
