Default Head Gasket

I'm going with the Cometic gasket, in 3.910(I have a forged 347...that's the right size, right?)
What thickness should I go with
.030
.040
.045
or
.051

It depends on the size of your cam and the size of your combustion chambers.

PTV clearance needs to be taken into consideration.

Are you pulling the heads only to swap the gasket? While the heads are on there, measure PTV with a dial indicator and checking springs and the new cam so you can figure out if you can live with thinner gaskets first.

i agree. then if you have enough clearance i'd go with the .040 gaskets.

Thats a big *** cam, I wouldnt really count on it clearing with the thinner gasket, but it might, just make sure you measure accurately. You can always flycut and run whatever you want.

How far OOH are the pistons if any? What side chamber on the heads? What compression are you going for? IMO, youre better off trying to get a .035 quench and then milling the head to desired compression.

What is OOH? They are bone stock '98 heads. Don't care so much for the compression haha, lowest I can go? I am going to be changing the heads/gasket before I put the blower on.

OOH is out of hole. Its how far up and out the piston tops come past the block deck. Stock is .007 or so. Aftermarket could be .000 or it could be .010, maybe more. Its really best to measure once the short block is assembled. Call the piston company and ask how far out they stick. Judging by the 4cc valve relifs theyre flat top and not dished, i take it.

What heads do you have now, and what size chambers? These are the heads youre planning on running for the blower? Also, thats HYOOOOGE cam for FI.

I am waiting on **** to get back from the machine shop, so I will call the company and ask them on the pistons. The heads I am running now are stock '98 853(I think) castings with Patriot Dual Gold Extreme springs, other than that, stock.

For FI I will be running ported and polished 241 casting heads and a smaller cam. Just running the cam while I stay NA =]
