Default LS6 Oil Pump (on a 98?)

Doing cam, just wondering which is a better choice for me. A stock used ls6 oil pump, or the ported & shimmed one from TSP? Used is 1/3 of the price, but am i losing alot over not getting the TSP one?

You could go through SDPC and get an GENIII high volume oil pump new for less then 80 bucks shipped. Thats what I did. Link is attached. By the way i had it in like 2 days.

I bought a new LS6 pump, put a shim in it myself. Kinda wish I would've bought a ported on to run an oil cooler, but I couldn't see spending almost twice as much for one.

how many miles on the used ls6?

If you have a 1998 ls block I'm not sure it has the updated oil galleys and such for better distribution. I would definately put in a new ls6 (~$45) or get the SDPC or similar high volume pump.

Dont forget a new o ring for the pick up.

30,000 miles on the ls6, my ls1 has 100,000.

Anyone know if they will even work on a 98?

He wants $50 shipped. Can i get them for 45 new somewhere?

The Melling high volume 346 oil pump seems to be very popular right now with the LS engine builders like LME and ERIK KOENIG of HKE Racing!

gmpartshouse.com

for the $5 I would get it new... I didn't realize it was someone elses' oil pump. It's prob ok w/ 30k but not worth $50. For the amount of work to get to and change it, there's only one way to go..

good luck
