918 Springs
I have a buddy who has a set of 918 springs he wants to sell me, he bought them about 5 months ago, now i know comp had an issue with a batch about a month or two ago, you guys think these will be ok, and how many of you have 918 springs with no issues?

Ask yourself how much are you saving and how much is it worth to you if you destroy the motor. On a relative scale, valve springs are inexpensive for such an important part. I wouldn't install these springs if they were free, there is too much risk. Just because someone else installed a set in the same time frame doesn't mean jack. The known bad batch numbers are documented, if he doesn't have the batch number don't buy them.

Over the years since they were first introduced, 918s have had MANY batch failures that often cause catistrophic failures whiping out whole engines. The manufacturor never recalled a single spring, however.
For this reason alone, I would avoid them.

i've been running 918's with a tr220/112 cam in my 5.3 since june05.
i've put over 20k mi. on this combo and this motor has seen 6800 rpms hundreds of times without a single hicup.

All non-PAC 918s are suspect. Comp has been exchanging 918s for 928s. Call them and see if they will exchange them. And when you call them don't ask if you have a bad batch, just tell them you have a bad batch. Comp is notorious for trying to hide problems. Just force the issue and they should swap them out to 928s for you.
Stipes mean nothing now. All 918s have been striped since 02-03.
I'd also advise anyone that has put a few thousand miles on there 918s to pull the covers and give them a quick check. With the way the spring fails at the end coil, you will not see a difference in power. There have been a lot of cases where people have pulled their valve covers for something else and found broken springs.

Interesting, I bet it's a 928 without the extra processing and surface conditioning.

I dont like them, the metal is junk.
Have them testested,I dont see why people buy used vavlesrpings. no offence guys. And think becuse some dude 700 miles away goes,Im running them w/XXX and XXXcam and there fine.
here a set I tested this week, off a car. I could see vavle float the dyno. Low miles, 1 summer limited probally 2kmiles on them.
comp listed specs
Comp PN 26918-xx
Comp list their specs to be:
installed 130# @ 1.800
open presser 318# @ 1.200
coilbind @ 1.085
spring rate 313#/in.
cly3
int spring @1.810 = 108#
ext spring @1.810 = 112#
int @1.200 = 290#
ext @1.200 = 302#
