unless you're looking for outrageous displacement, I don't see the need. with the ability of the modern LSX small block to reach 454 cubes, I can't see why you'd waste your time

I have an LT1 Camaro with a BBC in it. Before I started to work at New Era, my background was in BBC and SBC engines. The car looks awesome tubbed and with a huge motor in it, but it depends on what you want to do with the car. You can get the same power with the new technology available today and typically have it a little bit more reliable on the street.

yes agree.....as far as the price for bbc parts vs ls1 aftermarket parts......it's outragous!!!!i have 4900.00 in the top end of my car.....barely reaching 500hp
another 1000.00 would be a bbc 500hp out of the box....no tune.....no over priced parts...i'm just venting about this but does anyone else feel the same as me
dont get me wrong....ls1 motors are the S**T!!! but im going broke trying to beat cobras with a pulley and some bolt ons...

Don't do it. The amount of money you'll have invested to swap it isn't worth it in my opinion. BBC's are kinda heavy too. If anything, go with a wicked SBC.

I wouldn't do it. Anything you could do in a street car with a big block, you could match or do better with an LS1.

I have been considering this swap too.

I'm working on a build for my brother duplicating a combo I have a build sheet from a few years ago. It was basically a stock 454 BBC, bored out to 470ci with iron oval port heads (minor bowl work, narrowing guides and grinding away casting flash), Crane cam, Crane dual springs, Edelbrock manifold, Holley 1050cfm carb, and Moroso oil pan. It made 636bhp at 6800 RPM with 10:1 compression and pump gas. You can build this setup for about the same price you'd sell the old LS1/ECU and wiring in the donor car.

But, from what I don't think you can retain AC or heating, and it is considerably heavier than the all aluminum LS1.

Not anything. It's easier to make power with all the cubic inches of a big block, and cheaper too. That means easier on parts, lower octane fuel required, and more reliability. Like I said, cons are weight and creature comforts.

big blocks are cool, but for my drag car i will keep the good ol small block. for ANYTHING else that i want to play with on the street, it will be LSX powered. Thats why my Nova is getting a LQ4/L92 setup in the spring...

put a big block in a gen3 camaro or something... not a gen4 ls1 car. and if you would do it, might as well go carb'd too.

You have to admit that it would be cool though to swap a bbc into a 4th gen. I had thought about doing it in a 3rd gen till i bought my t/a. You can't get 20 mpg in town with a big block.

yeah although it is a hell of a site to see that stuffed in a 4gen.....think how big of a smile you would have on your face while getting into the car in the morning and starting up a 540 stroker with a solid roller 712lift cam ........hubba hubba....lol

If your in the market for a short block, check out Speed Inc., Texas Speed, or anyone of the other sponors. All have good deals on short blocks, long blocks, or complete setups.
