Default cam only soon to be 408

this is a stock ls1 (140K miles) motor with full botons, built 4L60E, and VIG3200 and soon to have 3.73
I cant decide what i want to do with y motor until i buy a 408 (18-24 months). I ran a compression test on my motor because i was going to go cam/head/FAST90. Compression ran good. however i feel like i am playing with fire. I have decided to not do anything to the motor and save for a 408. My only problem is that my valvetrain is really worn out and i am worried it may not make it another 2 years/ 50K miles. As of right now my power band drops off at 5000 RPM and my dyno gragh looks like a heartbeat moniter. That is why i assume that it is my valvetrain that is beat up.

Now that i have given you too much to read... Here are my questions
Should i go with an MS3 or MS4, with new valvetrain, cam only and let it carry over into the future 408
smaller cam for now (torquer v.3) and just get a bigger cam when i build the 408
Or dont do anything at all and cross my fingers

wow... you plan waayyyyyy in advance?

throw some new lifters/springs in there along with a complimentary cam for what you are gonna have for the next 2 years.

is this a DD or just a weekend warrior type car??

then get a nice cam that will give you more power without you needing a larger stall to compensate for the higher powerband. throw in a new valvetrain while its torn apart and be happy!

i'd say swap the lifters out, but u'd have to pull the heads, and if u think ur lifters are bad you might as well put new heads on while ur at it.

thats how my setup happened... started out as a header install, ended up as a heads/cam/90-90 setup hahahahah

Screw it, save up for a 408. You won't be driving it much anyways between the 2 of you over 2 years. Don't put 1-2 g's into it, thats half the cost of your new engine. I advise the same as I did to my buddy taht now has kids and doesn't have muchmoney for this anymore. Buy the bolck and pick away at the parts. Kee your eyse open for great parts/cheap price, happens all the time here in the classifieds and build you motor for less was you get all the parts. It won't be a huge chunk come 2 years from now either since you'll be pickin at starting now. As long as you abide to your plans you will be golden, and can even use the 'extra' new found cash for other parts.

I like this idea, build it slowly helps spread cost out. But since the car u have now has to make it i wouldnt touch it unless something breaks.

those guys are right, if ur not gonna be drivin it at all. dont compromise the driveability by goin with a 90-90/ms3 setup when u arent even going to be able to enjoy it.

sounds like money isn't a issue if you can throw money at it just for now with minimal use and later build it the way you want it with a 408, if thats the case go hard but not worth it to me. To do a cam install the right way will cost atleast 1000, another 1000+ for the fast90/90 and than ontop a tune around 500. Thats if you already ahve all the supporting mods, its more than you think it is. Save your money and jsut do it once and do it right

lol. if money wasnt an issue i would have the 408 already. I was just wondering if the valvetrain fails could it cause serious engine failure. or will it just drive a little weak?

Either way i think i have made up my mind. Im gonna save. And yes i have all the supporting mods except the ls1 intake. I have full boltons, full suspension, built 4L60E w/ VIG3200, and i am saving up for some gears to go along with my setup. 3.73's The car has already been tuned. I only have to pay $125 for a retune.

A set of GM LS6 valvesprings and new valveseals should fix that problem .
