Default porting stock heads

i may be getting a set of 5.3 heads and was thinking about porting them, does any one have any info/tips that they can give me also any pics showing where the best spot to remove material from, also what is the biggest valves you can stuff into these bad boys

2.00" is it without new seats. Then just grind out the casting flash and blend everything in and you should be fine.

what about with new seats and should i go bigger with both int and exh. or just go all intake? also ive heard the term deshrouding what is that excatly

what bore size are you planning to run ,and exactly what purpose is the engine for?

stock bore 3.900 and the car will be used for daily driver/weekend warrior

You can get 2.02" intake and 1.60" exhaust valves with the stock seats.

You don't want to though, not with the stock diameter seats.

As far as what valve size, there is a guy that says roughly 52-53% of the bore diameter is the max you should go with a wedge style chamber. He knows his stuff, so I'd listen to him.

Deshrouding is the reason for the 52-53% rule. The valves are shrouded whenever the chamber, bore wall, or whatever blocks the airflow around the valve. You deshroud the valves by removing material away from the valves or moving the valves away from the material.

I think there are still some good articles by David Vizard somewhere on popular hotrodding's website on the subject.

dont go any bigger than the 2in intakes on a 3.9 in bore.

What cam are you sticking with the heads? (regardless of your valve choice)
