stock heads, what cam?
hey guys first let me say i have done alot of searching before i posted this. so what im lookin for is, i got all bolt ons and a 3.73 gear, i dont want to change my heads for the reason of i plan on going with a whole new motor next winter. i want to know what is the best cam to use on stock heads i have an 02 z28. ive been looking at comp cam 232/234 595/598 112lsa, but im not sure if that is over kill for the heads. i dont drive the car everyday so drive ability is not a huge deal to me. i just want the best cam for stock heads and all bolt ons. also my car is an a4, i plan on getting yank tc too once i figure out what came to go with. my goal is to go somewhere in the 11's with stock heads cam only. thanks guys!

hey SSpdDmon comp makes that cam but its on a 114lsa, who makes it with a 112lsa, im sure i can have comp make a custom one, but would the advantage be going from a 114lsa to a 112lsa?

I have a 231/237 .589 .595 112lsa with stock heads, LS6 intake, Ported tb, 3800vig stall. Made 380whp through an A4. Car is a totally different beast now. Well....maybe not a beast compared to what a lot of people on this site have, but good enough for me.....for now

comp can grind that cam on a 112 all ya have to do is call em n tell em, they do custom grinds too , they spec'd me out a 232 238 595 605 112 + 4 for my setup and im going to be using 1.75 rockers so it will me like 15 lift higher on each side.

The difference I tend to see between this cam and something bigger is the power under the curve is better on the 22x duration cams. Something in the 23x's will require you to spin the motor a little higher to get to the sweet spot.

thanks guys for all ur input. so my mods are as folllow, lt headers, td exhaust, ud pulley, slp lid, stock ls6 intake, stock tb, trans go shift w/ b&m deep pan, 3.73 gear. the car went 12.8 @ 108mph with a 1.93 60ft this past summer with out the lt headers and td exhaust. i would say thats pretty damn good for an a4 car. the car is also stock weight t-top car. now im confused some people are saying they a cam with 230+ and some are saying stay with a 220+ cam, i dont know what i wanna do now lol. thanks again everyone. the more input the better!

Here is the kicker with the 230+ cams and an automatic: the RPM's eventually hurt the trans without some updated hard parts. Most of the cams listed are going to peak in the 6200-6500 range, and best shift points will be higher than the peak. By going that big, you trade off torque from the bottom end. If all you want to do is drag race, thats fine. But if you want a dual purpose street car, the 224 cam is going to make a lot more low-end torque, and be more drivable.
It will be a little tougher to get it in the 11's with less cam, but it will run better anytime you're not at the track. Besides, if you're saving for a whole different motor next year, what's a few tenths?

I ran a 225/225 .581/.581 112 cam in my previous a4 car. I also had a 3500 stall, longtubes, ory, Hooker catback, lid, and pulley, but I DIDN'T have a ported TB or cutout.
The car went 12.0 with a 1.84 60ft on street tires, and then in POOR weather, it went high 11s with a decent tire.
I have a bit larger cam in my m6 228/230, and it drives nice as well. I would suggest you go larger than I did with my a4, I know I wanted more cam and verter VERY soon after getting used to the new power.
I wouldnt go with anything smaller than what I have now. I like the idea of the 232/234 cam you mentioned in the beginning.
