GTP LS6 heads have arrived! (pics inside)
It was a pleasant surprise this week to finally get my heads back from GTP. These are LS6 castings ported by Craig @ GTP for my solid roller 346ci setup. I was using GTP 5.3l heads the last time around and thought it was time to step up to the LS6 heads. Here is some info on the heads:
- GTP stage 2+++ porting
- Ferrea titanium 2.055/1.57 valves (The intake valves weigh 77.4g, while the exh. valve comes in at 69.9g; this is compared to 120.0g/95.9g for a equivilant stainless valve. )
- Copper Beryllium valveseats for use with the titanium valves
- Poly-Dyn coated combustion chambers, valve faces, and exhaust ports
- Custom 5/16" valveguides
Some pics:
Intake port
Coated exhaust port
Coated titanium valves
Copper Berryllim seats and coated combustion chambers
5/16" custom guides
I am waiting on custom domed pistons from Chris@Diamond. I am going to have them coated as well at Poly-Dyn. Once they come in, the rotating assembly needs to be rebalanced and the block align bored/honed since I'll be adding billet main caps with ARP main studs. I'm also going to a larger cam, higher ratio T&D rockers, a new valvespring/retainer setup, a set of Kooks 1 3/4 - 1 7/8 stepped header when the motor goes in, and a few other misc. things. It is going to be a month or two before that all gets done, but I'm glad the heads showed up already. They are normally the thing I am always waiting on. lol

Thanks guys! They flowed 305cfm on the intake and 215cfm on the exhaust. Not much more peak cfm than my last set of 5.3l, but I did pick up some mid-lift cfm on the intake side.
Andrew, your set should be here soon.

Yes, I have a TNT kit sitting in my room ready for install. I'm just going to wait until I have forged pistons before putting the kit on.

You want to use the heat generated by combustion to push down on the piston rather than bleed off into surrounding surfaces during the power stroke. This is the purpose of the thermal barrier coatings in the chambers, valves, and pistons.

How much were they?
Of course, these are just wild guesses. YMMV.

The heads were $$$, but I am offsetting alot of the cost by selling my old 5.3l heads.
LOL Ron, if you say so..... :p
