limited budget stroker build,how do you make 475rwhp
to save $$ using stock crank-rods how do you put together a long service 475rwhp engine.will the combo be strong enough for saturday drags on the spray?? NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT

All-Bore resleeved 382ci engine, stock crank, stock rods, custom pistons. LS6 intake, properly spec'd camshaft, good tuning.
475 rwhp and 440+ ft-lbs no problem.
If you are going to spray it, opt for some nicer rods though.
My all-bore 382 was the best all-around engine setup I've ever owned. 455 rwhp with a small 221/221 T1 camshaft, ran 11.0s on motor, got 24 mpg on the highway, passed emissions sniffer tests. I sold it to a guy with a Corvette when I went with the 434ci, that guy has put over 50K miles of abuse on that 382ci, and its still going strong.

tony,that's what i'm iookin for,thks. how does one go about puttin' one of those together.
As to the Darton sleeve issue, MTI is no longer having any sleeve issues (per them) with a 7 month old cryo/oven process. They use a similar process successfully at ARE, and AAP uses the same sleeves as MTI with so far great success. MTI warrantees all motors they install for 2 years. If a sleeve is going to leak, it wont take its time

Ultimate budget would be .060 iron block for 370 cubes. Could install an offset ground crank for around 396ci. That with a great set of heads (S3) and matched cam and you should be close to 500RWHP. You'll save abour a grand compared to alum but gain 100 pounds...

Oh...rereading the original question, I wont be spraying this engine at all. If you are, non-stock rods may be a good idea. Im not, so I saved about 800-1200 by sticking with stock rods. I'll go wiht aftermarket rods when I turn this into a 427

and you know im poor,
but i got the hookups at a machine shop if necessary
but my car is a DD
how much will a 38x affect the gas mileage?
how much will a 42x/43x affect gas mileage?
and its an automatic. =(

Well, 38x will lower the gas mileage a bit, and a 42x/43x will lower it a bit more. With some outstanding tuning it shouldn't kill your gas mileage too much, but you will see some difference. The machining process isn't the issue. Thats actually fairly cheap. Its the resleeving(expensive) and the internal parts that you replace. You generally want to replace the crank/rods/pistons and such with forged components. They are hellaciously stronger, and are capable of supporting much more horsepower. However, the downside is, forged internals are expensive as all hell. The Lunati kit is something like 3500 or 4000 dollars? If you're not going to be running boost, or spraying, and you won't be pounding the **** out of the motor, then stock internals should suffice. Good luck man.
