Anyone running the Hot Cam?
I have a chance to pick one up at a good price. Car will be pro tuned
I have long tubes, borla exhaust and z06 3.42 gears. Car is daily driver wondering what people think since it will be on the stock stall i think maybe this cam will be the right size for the stock stall.

I had the hotcam in a stock stalled automatic, with a stock 3.23 gear. It worked ok, but to take advantage of any cam, you need a looser converter than stock. It will sound really good, make pretty good power, but it wont be very strong off the line. I remember watching my car on a video of me and a bunch of friends at the track at Owingsville in KY. Right about the time my car shifted to second you could see the rearend wiggle where it shifted down right into the powerband of the hotcam. It felt really good, but it still needed a stall to take advantage of it fully. I made 365rwhp and 362 lbft with an LS1 intake, pacesetter headers, dual cutouts, airlid, Hotcam, stock 1998 heads. Its a great little camshaft.

What heads would go great with this cam? I can't find anyone doing this cam with ported heads. By the way I love this cam. I have M6 though and 3:73 gears with all the bolt-ons except pulley.

I just installed this cam in my c5 and love it. I used 5.3L truck heads that i ported and polished myself. I took the stock valves out of my corvette and cut my intakes on the 5.3 heads to fit. I did a lot of work all at one time. I also did an ls6 intake, 915 comp springs, comp chromoly pushrods, shorty headers, yank 2800 stall, custom mandrel bent exhaust, rebuilt the tranny with lots of upgrades to manage the extra power with no worries. The rest was insurance for peice of mind. I did clevitte 77 triarmor bearings with a melling 296 oil pump, 180* thermostat, 85 mm maf sensor, and little things like throttle body bypass and stuff i dont remember. I know everyone gives this cam a hard time but it sounds good, makes good power, has incredible street manors and most importantly it is proven! If your looking to get a useful cam then i would recommend it. if your looking for a cam for a car that isnt going to be drivin regularly then go big!

I used the 5.3 heads because it bumped up my compression. If i can remember correctly i went from like a 66.67 cc to 62 combustion chamber. I can run 93 octane gas no problem and the car runs extremely strong. I got a good deal on my hot cam and thats why i chose it as well. No regrets here!

i had this cam for a year, and i drove it untuned with a stock stall.... You are definately gonna want a stall with that cam, as it really comes alive in the upper rpms. It sounds mean as hell too, but get her tuned to get the most out of it!
