Default TICK TICK TICK H/C z28

h/c z28 here that has a futral cam in it. The car has slowly developed a ticking speed that is at approx half the frequency of the crank turning. I think it is valve train related.

I know there were some issues with futral cams, but i am not going to point the finger immediately at them.

I pulled all the push rods, they're all straight. re torqued the rockers and looked at the oil. i even cut the oil filter open and there is nothing to speak of inside.

The lifter preload was correct when the cam was installed. Ran great for 25k mi that its had on the setup.

This is a friends z28 that i do all the work on. Any advise?

My dad and I both put Futral cams in our F-Body's last winter. My dad received a bad cam, mine was fine. If it is the cam, Futral will take care of you, they were really good about taking care of the people that received bad cams when I bought mine. However seeing that you have 25k on the cam, I don't think you received a bad cam (a bad cam would be noticed in the first couple hundred miles).

You may want to check the valve springs also. I don't know what kind he has but some and a dampner inside the spring. It looks like a flat spring. Sometimes they break. I had a tick, tick in mine but it was my valves hitting the piston, lol. I noticed it right away.

thanks guys....i know he has double springs on these, im not sure as to which brand. They came on his TEA 5.3's. Im actually getting a buddy to take a measurement using a microphone. I am going to count the frequency of the tick and compare it to the crank speed. Depending on how fast the tick is i may be able to narrow down what the problem is without yanking it all apart.

If it came on all the sudden I think it's probably either a broken valve spring or a bad lifter.
