Default Slightly rusted new cam

Well I bought a L92 Stage 2R cam from Livernois and it has slight rusting on a few of the lobes. It's not pitting but I think more of surface rust. Should I be worried about this or try cleaning it with something? I'm kind of skeptical that the cam was sitting around for a while as it doesn't feel like it has any oil on it and the bag was already opened and the box was worn down.

Just clean it up. It should be OK unless it has started to pit. You could send it back. They should not send one out with rust IMO.

No nothing to worry about...... If you can just get a solvent parts cleaning tank and clean your cam with solvent and scrub it with a scotch brite pad..... Ive seen this many times

I agree, I received heads from them that had every valve spring rusted and rust sliding down the valves. Called them up and they resolved everything by sending me new heads immediately and paid for shipping to send the bad ones back.

That's what I thought. I don't want to scratch the lobes at all and cause any problems as I've put lots of money into this motor so far.

Can you get a good resolution pic of it? 95% chance its fine, but a pic would definitely be helpful.

I've got a 12mp digital camera that lacks so many options. It has no option to capture a close up shot. All of the close ups came out blurry and you can't distinguish anything

No macro mode? You dont see a little picture of a flower anywhere on the camera? With 12 MP you can take the picture from across the yard, lol!

i would not put anything rusted in my engine. you should be okay if you clean it but personally i would not do it. call them and see if you can get a new one sent out. did you buy it as a used product? if not i would make them overnight a new one to me. if you pay for a new part you should get a new part in respectable condition.

It would probably be fine. But I agree. You should order new **** and get rusted parts.

Thats just a little flash rust.

See if it will wipe off with laquer thinner.

If that doesnt work use steel wool to take it off. Then wash it to clean it all up.

The pictures aren't showing it all, but I'll try wiping it down tomorrow. Last thing I want to do is scratch it
