Matching a cam to head flow numbers
I just ordered Bored LS6 heads from Patriot Performance (59cc)
The flow numbers are shown as:
.100" .200" .300" .400" .500" .550" .600"
intake 72 140 202 246 280 295 304
exhaut 65 124 160 196 220 226 229
Any suggestions as to what spec'd cam I should go with? This is gonna be a daily driver, engine has slightly over 80K mileage. LS6 intake and long tube headers, off road Y-pipe, cool air intake,...

thanks for the replies. I'll try calling patriot again tomorrow. I called before and they were just suggestion there cam, but I have to go with a comp cam because that is what my mechanic ordered. I think he went small, so I am trying to get the best cam I can for my application.

Make sure you tell your mechanic about this thread.

The reason you mech. went small is because you milled the heads to 59cc, that is a reduction of about .025>.030 piston to valve clearance not taking into account your valve size.
Going small he will have to choose a wider LSA to keep your DCR value under 8.7. Otherwise you increase your detonation issues and are forced to run premium all the time.
I cannot understand why poeple choose 59cc 243 castings without understanding that flycutting is needed for any decent sized cam.

I appreciate all the feedback. I didn't want my mechanic to just order any old cam from comp. I think he just picked a smaller, mid-range cam and went with it without really looking into my set-up, but I'm not 100% sure. I can still swap the cam he ordered for another comp, as long as its still new. I think I am gonna try to swap for the XR-275 HR on a 112 degree LSA. Quick feedback will be appreciated, this swap may happen today, unless I here otherwise. Thanks everyone, you have all been a huge help, much appreciated!!
