Who's got an LS1 in their RX-7?

Who's got an LS1 in their RX-7? Got some questions for you.
How much are the 93-97 body's going for (RX-7's)? What all is needed to do the LS1 swap? Is it just a tranny and motor? How much do those cars weigh in at after the LS1 and tranny have been put in?
I know they are insane, and just wanted more info on all of this. Feel free to share whatever other info you might have.
PLEASE post up pics of the cars, especially inside, and under the hood.

Yeap, look at Hindson Supercars on Google or yahoo and open up the site.
And it is 93>95, and they are not cheap but some deals can be found. At least $15K for a built one if you do all the work yourself

theres a local guy that has one the i helped alot with the swap and it really isnt that bad at all
the rx7 shells fetch a pretty penny so your gonna spend some cash on one but the car is badass. he used the hinson kit that had the subframe, crossmember, torque arm, and driveshaft

I built a fd last year, The bodies are expensive but they handle very well and make a very neat little car...... If your just looking for a light project I would suggest a first gen s-10.... Mine first gen was only 3000 pounds with a sbc, full cut through stereo and such..... It's easy to make one 2800 pounds and rip! The FD's are about 2800 when finished....

I am in the process of converting a second generation RX7 right now. The 2nd gens are very inexpensive to buy. I paid $1000 for a nice roller and recouped all of that selliing unneeded stuff from it. The conversion parts and suspension and maintenance parts are less too. They aren't as sexy as the 93+ but can be just as potent for far fewer $. I have been lucky with finding good hardware for low $ but I expect to have $11k all in including wheels/tires and new suspension (and a cam and headers for the motor). Either will weigh between 2750 #and 2900# at the end of the day with 50/50 weight distribution

just weighed my ls1 FC last night. 2840 with no interior in the back, but full interior from the seats forward. some tools behind the seat and a 40lb battery
no AC or PS.
i have roughly somewhere around $10k tied into mine with coil overs, wheels tires, buying interior parts and misc little things like an extra jack and such.

FC shells: anywhere from free to $1500($1500 being a REALLY nice rx7 with no motor/trans)
FD:from $3k to $6k
i got mine for $500:
I have a buddy who has an even nicer body FC, newer in white, with nice black interior and runs(as a rotary) and he only paid $230 for his car.

Brismo, that is an awesome looking ride. Nice work. I really don't think you can wrong with the older body styles, it could save you a lot in the long run.

As the others have said, expect to pay around 6 grand for the roller they do look sweet, but man they are high. The subframe torque arm and driveshaft are right at $1500, headers $800. Rad, fuel parts, misc other bs, $1000. I'd say about 15 is a pretty good estimate for the do it yourselfer. Pretty safe to say you could build a second gen one for about half that. Thats the route I went, and couldn't have been happier.

I was almost tempted to go LS1 with my FD. I had the cash in hand for an LS/T56 and a Hinson Kit. Hinson did not have any in stock, (Nobody did) and my GTO blew up a couple of days later. The GTO took my FD Funds! lol.
I did build up the Rotary with a 62-1 Single turbo and streetport. 356whp at 12 PSI.
I bought mine in 2004 with a salvaged title. You can find nice shells with the salvaged title for cheap. Parts were so expensive for these cars that insureance companys just totaled them out over minor damages. So, there are good, straight, restored shells out there for a bargain if you're willing to accept a "Salvaged" title.
I paid 7K for a stock running FD in basically this exterior condition minus the front lip. Engine/drivetrain I did. For The best source for RX7's and parts, Go to: rx7club.com. Also, depending on how much of the car you receive, you can sell off alot of unused parts to help pay for the swap.

Thanks for all the info. After reading into this some more I am glad the price is actually a bit high because it shot down my dreams of maybe getting one. This sounds odd, but I am happy because now that I know it is going to be THAT much to get a good running one going, I am no longer tempted in doing it, and I can press on with the other projects I have for the future.
