Default Lifters

Just wondering what lifters everyone thinks is the best. Just built a 408 LS motor and put Morel lifters in the motor with jesel shaft mounts. I was having problems with engine turning more than about 6K it was like it was floating the valves. After I put about 500 miles on the motor I put it on the dyno, and it made 513rwhp at 6k on an upward trend then just fell on its face. I then began to experience some noise in the valvetrain, and I pulled the heads. The plunger in the lifters are not rebounding very quickly at all. I am wondering if anyone could share some info on where I should go from here. I have manley springs, smith brothers pushrods. Seat pressure on the springs is 165. I have an ultradyne bullet cam. 246-250 620-628 on a 110. Please provide as much info as possible, I need the help. The motor should be making peak power somewhere around 7-7200 in my opinion.

Morel lifters are supposed to be the best you can buy.

As far as your valvetrain... What about pushrod length, lifter preload
and wipe pattern ?

Well there have been many cases I have read here that had similar issues to yours. They wound up installing the stock rockers and any high rpm's issues were resolved. Not sure on the heads your setup has so that may not be an option.

Thumbs up

We don't use them much but all the jesel deals we have used turn 7000 rpm easy with no problems.

Morel lifters are very nice.

I vote for GM lifters from SDPC. I got the ones used in Cadilac racing and they are great. Quiet, and designed for upwards of 8000rpm. OEM reliability.

More information on specifics of your engine combination. Which Jesel's are you running?

I know the SS series have issues with anything over stock LS6 lifts, see this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ighlight=jesel

With a seat pressure of 160, I would look at Morels, which were designed for higher seat and over the nose spring loads. Also, the stock rockers are not very stiff, so that much spring force may fatigue the rocker body, I wouldn't install stock rockers myself. Stock rockers with heavy spring loads will also accelerate guide wear.

Does anybody know for sure if the LS7 and the Caddy racelifters have the same cup depth for the pushrod? Just wanna be sure there will be nothing changing in the valvetrain geometry in any way.
