Default Can a stock LS1 have the valves hit the pistons?

I bought a used LS1 with 62K and I'm upgrading the heads and cam. Once I cleaned the pistons I can clearly see that the intake valves hit 6 of the pistons. This was not clear intil I cleaned the pistons so it must have been some time ago.

Can this happen if it was over revved on a stock motor? Or does it indicate there's and after market cam?

In a Mustang GT I had awhile ago, I accidently went from 5th to 2nd..hah oops! But, I guess that's how you get a Mustang to spin tires on the interstate.

I guess that makes me a tard. I managed to go 3-2 when I first bought the car..I took out the stock camshaft, lifters, pushrods and managed to leave a few nice "valve reliefs".

That mark is way larger then what I saw on mine! Mine were just hints of a mark that was only exposed once I cleaned the carbon off. Did yours bend any valves?

*raises tard hand*

Did the 3rd to 2nd. Luckily, I wasn't racing or anything. I was just goofing around on a highway and wasn't far enough into 3rd to make 2nd redline.

Good heavens! I didnt know it was so common! I wonder if the previous owner had to replace anything. It surely was not as severe as the pictures here....

The way you have to shift on these cars blows ***. You have four gears on the top and three on the bottom. The shifter is tall and thin. Who the **** thought of that? I have a B&M ripper in my Formula and it still took me forever to get used to it.

It doesn't only happen from misshifts, it can happen if you have weakened springs and spin the motor high enough to get valve float. The cam lobe comes down quick enough at high rpms that if the valve spring isn't strong enough, the valve actually lags behind and the piston is nice enough to help close the valve, hence, the nice little eyebrowe without bending anything. This is usually the case when guys raise the limiters in the cars to above 6500 without changing springs.

But Reverse should never have an affect on your shifting since it gets blocked once you start moving. You can cram that shifter as far right as you want while you're moving and you're not going to get into Reverse unless you break something.

Yes, I took out the camshaft, lifters, pushrods and a couple valves with that misshift.

I know, but it's still there. They should have made the shifter short and wide instead of tall and thin. The way it is now the distance between shifts are long and hard to get into because there's not much separating the gears from each other.
