Default Help!! Do stock rod bearing tangs face out on 1,3,5,7 and in on 2,4,6,8??

Like title stated...do stock rod bearing tangs face out on 1,3,5,7 and in on 2,4,6,8?? I just pulled all pistons since the have the little dimple which would usually indicate which way the piston goes in. The dot goes towards the front of the motor. Well in that case if I put the pistons back in the rod bearing tangs on 2,4,6,8 would be on the opposite side of the centerline while 1,3,5,7 wouldn't...

Putting new pistons/rods in so should the tangs face outside on both sides of the motor??

The tangs face outwards, closest to the panrails, on both sides.

The dimples on the stock piston should face forward, right? If that is true, the LS6 and 5.3 I pulled apart would have the tangs inward (away rom panrail) on 2,4,6,&8.

In this thread I found this comment...

There is also an upper and lower rod bearing, the upper is the one on the rod itself, lower is rod cap.

When its all said and done, none of the chamfered edges will be together, the chamfers on lets say #1 and #2. #1 will be facing the front of the engine, while #2 will be facing the rear on the same crankpin.

you are correct. since i work for gm i went upstairs and found the 98 camaro service manual. here is a direct quote, "position the connecting rod so that the flat area on the bolt flange faces the front of the engine block." so odd numbers will face one direction and evens will face the other.

This is how the connecting rods face in a LSx engine. They all face the same direction.

Very interesting how you run them the same in stock applications and and opposite for aftermarket rods...

maybe this plays a factor in people spinning number 1 rod bearing in a stock configuration. ?
