If im not mistaken you can take it out of the top with a cherry picker. But you have to disassemble most of the motor before pulling.

If you have access to a lift, is it easier to drop the suspension, engine and tranny out together and lift the body/chassis up?

I also dropped mine and put it in thru the bottom with 2 jackstands, a jack, and a **** load of wood. I wouldnt think of doing it thru the top. I also did all this on grass, not even pavement. Needless to say it wasnt THAT bad.

Ive always done top end removal. IF using a lift, unless you removed the motor from the suspension and then re bolt it in, you cant roll the car off and your tying up a lift.
