are valve covers a factor in horsepower??

Huge factor. Without them you would run out of oil and likely start a fire.

No. They are just a cover for your valvetrain(rockers, springs, etc.).

Damn man, yeah actually they are...the lighter they are the faster your car will be.. each 100lbs removed from a vehicle is roughly .1 off your 1/4 et

And valve covers are what like 2 lbs each.

Plus the OP was asking about HP, and weight does not affect HP one bit.

do they make custom valve covers that say pontiac for the ls1??

You can have them say anthything you want. We carry Nasty Performance valve covers, http://www.ccperformanceparts.com/id69.html

you can have anything you want engraved on them
