You'll also need adequate valve springs and pushrods

Anyone know the pushrod length i'll need for an MS4? And TSP has a package with the MS4, PRC Spring Kit, and hardened chromoly pushrods. Should i just buy this and make it easier than piecing things together? Also what's the difference between a 111 and 112 lobe seperation? Sorry for all the questions but this will be my first cam swap.

You'll need PRC dual springs I believe, TI retainers, and chromoly pr's. You'd probably be better off buying their kit.

Keep stock pushrod length 7.4 just get hardened ones. As for springs, PRC, Patriot Gold, Crane dual valvesprings will work just make sure they are good for the lift on the cam. The kit might be a good idea. As for the lobe seperation angle with this cam the 112 will yeild you a smoother idle and the 111 should be quite a bit choppier. Id go 111. But its your preference.

Yea the 111 LSA is going to be rougher than the 112 LSA, but you are already getting a beast cam in the MS4 so might as well go 111LSA. Also I believe LSA is described in the cam sticky as being the # of degrees between the intake valve being fully open and the exhaust valve being fully opened. I think that with the 111 LSA the valves would be closed longer and the engine would make more torque. Regardless of which one you pick I think they should result in about the same horsepower. Good Luck!

IIRC, the narrower the LSA the more overlap you will have, which will cause a more lopey idle and raise your peak hp rpm.

The TC and oil pump aren't a "must" but now would be the time to do it if you have the $$ left. The 111 LSA will make peak power a little sooner than the 112.

The PRC spring kit might come with locks, retainers, seats and seals. If you have stock heads and gaskets I would think you would need at least a 7.425 length pushrod.

Yep... Smaller base circle. TSP MAY tell you 7.4's but that is not enough preload in my IMO.

The retainers and new seals will come with the spring kit. may have to re use valve locks, dont remember. On a 98 its pretty crucial to get that oil pump replaced. 7.4 or 7.425 will be fine either way.

they use the stock pushrod length... of 7.400"

LS6 ported pump for sure!

ALSO don't forget that gasket kit! Just buy the cam package from TSP and get their ported oil pump ls2 CHAIN ONLY we dont need the sprockets. buy the gasket kit from them too...

ms4 on a 111 is a beastly cam for that 98 shortblock. to take advantage of a cam that large you'll need to be willing to spin 6800 rpm. either way, i hope you know what you're getting into, but given your knowledge regarding pushrods, etc, i don't think you do. it sounds to me like you might enjoy their torquer series of cams more, as they don't require such high rpm and will drive much better in the lower rpm. also, you will want some 410 gears with that cam. the 342s will be a dog and take what seems like forever to wind out.

you'll need a cam
dual spring of your choice
retainers (typically included with the springs)
gaskets
hardened pushrods
i would suggest a new oil pump
ls2 timing chain, no sprockets as already mentioned

if it were me i would buy:
a set of patriot gold duals
use texas-speed's custom cam designer for a cam of my choice
tsp hardened pushrods
lingenfelter ported oil pump
gaskets from GM
ls2 timing chain from GM
