Whats the best Cam for Stock Heads?
Whats the best Cam for Stock Heads? What Cam will make the most TQ/HP with stock heads? My Car has full bolt ons and I will maybe add some heads later and then again maybe not. Its a DD Street Car that goes to the track once or twice a year.

LOL, thats funny.
What are your future plans?? Are you goin to stick with say full exhaust, cam & intake on the motor itself?? If so you wanna look into a reverse split cam. For example a 23x/22x or something similar. They are ground to work better with stock heads that a traditional cam like a 23x/24x for example.
If you plan on goin H/C in the future, I'd try to plan on what heads your gonna be running & then choose a cam that will be optomized from the complete combo. Otherwise you'll find yourself buying 2 cams in the end instead of only one.
It's all about the complete combo & final goal of the car. Don't listen to people who just blindly tell you to grab the biggest cam you can cram in there. Thats the worst thing you can do. Also try to decide if your car is goin to stay a street car/weekend warrior or dedicated track only car as that will also affect your combo in the end.

Three things we need to know:
1) What mods do you have?
2) What are your plans (mods/usage)?
3) What are your goals (power/ET's)?
Unless done correctly, #2 doesn't always imply #3.

these are always funny to play with. okay enough laughing. what are your future mods like stated above. it you want stock exhaust then the cheater can will work great especially with nitrous. if you want to support all bolt ons and stock heads the t-rex will work great. if you get full exhaust and leave intake the trak cam works good too.
for the greatest cam, seek predator or patrick g on this site to help with a custom cam.
i had full exhaust, ls6 intake and stock 241 heads and loved my t-rex.

Sorry Lads about not adding my mods and goals I have full bolt ons with a LS6 intake. Exhaust system is 1 7/8s Kooks, ory, magnaflows she also has 3800 stall and 3.73s. This is a DD street car that goes to the track very once or twice a year. I am to broke to buy heads but this car needs a cam so I am going cam only route. Goal is as much HP/TQ I can get.

If I was trying to get the most power out of a stock headed car, I'd use the Trex v.2. I'll most likely be putting one in this winter.
On a side note, I think your stall would be a little small for a cam like that. I'm no converter guru though.

You know.... bigger isnt always better. Dont be scared by the MANY time proven 224's 228's. Those are great cams, they produce great numbers, and they are very tame cams. No bucking, surging, great street manners. These are all things you need to take into account as well. The larger you go, the more likely your gonna be full time rodeoing. Just a thought..

OK guys. I snuck over here from the hybrid section. I've been gazing through the mods for the LS1 with a lot of interest. I guess I'm a little more of an old school guy so I feel I have much to re-learn. You know....grew up with big blocks, solid lift cams, and carbs. And yep....I'm bald.
Anyway, I'm not trying to highjack the thread but I'm hoping you can all help both of us. I'm building my project as a daily driver...but keep in mind that I love the super rough choppy idle. Dont mind it taking a stall now and then. Distance to work....7 miles. Occasional weekend trip abroad. Drop out came from a 01 WS6. I hope to keep the 241's. Have to build my own headers. Bought the 1 3/4 into 3.5 kit with lots of extra bend. No emission worries. No cat. Most likely single chamber Flowmasters. On mods. Making my own sort of ram air intake under radiator splash pan. Probably ditch the composite intake for something shiney (Polished Weind, Fast intake (polish myself)?). New to the whole tuning thing...in fact...fairly new to fuel injection. Got a taste of it with my Greddy turbo charged RX8. Yes...ricer. But I'm back with the big boys again. I hate my car....tuning nightmare! Plan on taking one of the on-line software/tuner coarses I've seen listed somewhere in one of these threads. So, I will learn to tune this motor. Have to.
Over all...main goal is for the LS1 to stand out in all its glory (no engine skirts). Polishing everything. Absolutely love the pop of valve over lap.
With all of this said....I like the T-Rex but I'm concerned about the 4000 stall for street use. I would assume it would be constantly stalled anything below 4000 grand. There goes the gas mileage. LOL's. Just kidding not really all that worried about that. Just worried about overworking the transmission.
Any thoughts? Good or bad. I take criticism well.
