New MTI 387 running with not a single code :-)
Its been a long time coming...
Even at the last moment I couldnt get away from work to do the stuff and jmX was moving apartments...
But we got it figured out and spent the last 3 days organizing planning, and finally installing the engine. We turned it over tonight and it literally fired right up on the first turn. (We had primed it...sure) Went straight to 1000 and then eventually fell to 800 or so. The X1 through the grotts and 4" mufflex doesnt sound stock, but it doesnt lope too much either. Im thinking a 4" cutout and a nice quiet 3" Corsa or something the rest of the way back.
Big thanks to jmX who came half way accross the country to help me with htis massive task. Ive moved homes since I took the engine out... So he was invaluable in figuring what bolt went where.
Major thanks to Jayson, Rick, and everyone at MTI for tolerating my 1,743,297th call a couple days ago. The motor looks like a total winner. Im scared ****less right now to open it up, so I'll just have to assume it will run like a top fuel car when I get around to letting it loose.
Im heading to bed now... But I just wanted to let you all know that after several years, I think this car is starting to smile
jmX and I are going to try and organize a "journal" or similar... but the job looks tooooo long to be doing a complete howto.
Last, you can check some pictures out at the link below to prove you can (rather easily) slip the engine in with the M6 attached. LOTS more pictures coming. I like my new Canon EOS-10D.

We'll collaborate on a engine install journal and show pics of most of the steps. I'm amazed at how easy it actually is (lots of work, but easy).
Congrats on your new 387ci Camaro SS. I'm jealous!

Congrats on the install. Glad to hear everything went okay, I can't wait to see some dyno #'s or even better some track times.

Thanks all...
Yeah, Vince...Ive had time to errr.... "save". Thats the ticket . I have been spending alot of time and money practicing reproducing though. I enjoyed the practice alot and I practiced enough that here in May my wife popped out our son Andrew. So lets say that its been a "distraction".
The picture that found its way in there (I transferred the pics en-masse to the directory) is of jmX and Andrew.
We've got some random suspension upgrades that Ive been keeping around, and then I need to start messing with LS1Edit. Im a big fan and I have a plan mapped out. Im pretty sure that I need to replace the O2 sensors... but with the local dealership charging 117$ EACH! I'll be ordering those from TR or similar.
I want this thing to be purring like a kitten with 0 LTFTs accross the board... and then I'll start dyno'ing and getting some insane numbers.
I think of it this way;
Its an MTI 387 All-Bore with Stage 3 LS6 heads, an X1 cam and Grotts with 2x3" -> 4" LG custom Y. The dyno numbers and track times will come very naturally
The car has 21k miles on it! I started modifying it when it had 15k miles, in 1999 :-/

Oh... and the plan is:
Everyone buys their C5 column lock bypasses and 02 extensions from jmX (www.ls1howto.com) and then in the next year or so *I* go help him put an all-bore 387 in his C5. After that maybe we will have a *full* howto.

so long as we dont get "practicing reproducing" how-to's from either of you two, the internet will be a better place.

I can't wait to see the install directions...
I saw the earlier pictures with the long block in the spipping crate.
Do you have an M4 or T56?
