Default Basic heads/cam Decision Questions

Hey,

I searched the forums out and found most of the info i was looking for.

Heres what i want my car to do and how i use it. I dont daily drive the car, its a nice weather car after work that i use to go out and just play around on the street. I dont race it on the track every weekend, infact its never been on the track yet.

I want something that is streetable and does not loap like crazy and sound like its about the fall apart or explode. I hear that a 112LSA should be pretty close to stock and not too choppy.

1.At what point would i need to upgrade the fueling system?
2.With a streetable cam is it possibe to achieve close to 500rwhp?

Thanks!

114 lsa is closer to stock than 112, 450 rwhp or so for the injectors

and relative as far as streetable. For you and your not wanting the big lope I would say no, it wont be. BUT you will have plenty of people say yes it will be thats why it's all relative....LOL It would have to be a big cam and you get low end loss with big cams. They dont start kicking til 3500 rpms but from 4000-7000 the car takes off. Soooooo it all depends on what you want. How often are you driving in that rpm range is what you need to think about. You'll make more power from 1000-5000 rpms with a 224 duration cam than a 238 duration cam. The avg hp and tq from the (TR224) will blow it out of the water.

Good heads a TR224 or a Mamo 224/228 and some AFR's or TFS or ET's or Darts and your around 450 rwhp 400 rwtq. All under the curve power ready to snap your neck back from 1800 rpms to 6300 rpms.

Awsome thanks for the input. This TR224 cam, is it considered a mild street cam then? I really dont want or need something huge for the way that i drive my car.

A tr224 style cam is a good all around cam.Really streetable with good solid performance.I would go for the 114 lsa and get a good tune.I have a custom grind comp cam 224/224 561/561 @ 115 lsa.The car's idle is a little more ruff than stock and acceleration is smooth until I put my foot in it.That's what I wanted. You can use bigger, but you can't go wrong with the tr224.Like 99blankoSS said, get a good set of heads too.

u definitely cant go wrong with a 224/224 cam. its one of the most popular cams ever!! still most people still prefer the 224 cam over newer and bigger cams. but if your car isnt a daily driver you can go a little more bigger like a TR230 cam or so.

Once warmed up my cam runs like stock. My 111LSA + 2 brings the power in early and is worth the little aggravation when cold. My lockup is 47 mph and it has at least stock torque so it drives great. With the right stall a medium cam car like mine can be a very good DD. Tune is the key!!

Do a search on the Tony Mamo cam and heads setup. Cam is 224/228 114 LSA and was designed for something that is well behaved in traffic on the street but will have a very snappy response with a lot of power across the RPM and including down low.

first- i would go over to the corvette forum and pick up the set of cartek 3x heads that are for sale in the c5 section- its a set of 243's done by cartek- they are stamped on the side with their name. the owner (not me) is welling to sell them for less than 1000. that is a steal...than pick up the 224 cam that others mentioned on this forum...i would say your all set..

so which LSA would be the closest to stock then?

Also, what kind of rwhp can one expect with the TR224 cam with a good tune and a nice set of heads?

The higher the LSA, the smoother the idle (which is closer to stock)..

ok good to know. anyone have a sound clip of the tr224? also i know nothing about heads, even tho i have heard about cartek. Other then that, all these numbers that are used for heads really dont mean much to me?
