LS1 383 long block assembly price
A local shop quoted me at $3700 to hone, bore and stroke my ls1 motor to a 383 and then assemble it to a long block. I bought all the parts on my own, took the engine out by myself and the $3700 is just a price for machine work and assemble to long block form. The engine had been working pefectly in my car before i took it out and there were never any problems with my engine. $3700 seemed a very hight price just to hone, bore, and stroke my engine to a 383 and assemble to long block? Can anyone chime in here and tell me if they are trying to rip me off? Could someone tell me what they payed or what they think it should cost for assembly?

I can charge you more if you want, maybe I'm missing something? Just a 383 right?
Thats a clean up on the bore. Stroking it consists of using a 4" stroke crank shaft.. the cost is in the parts. There is some clearancing to be done and then basic assembly.
If you use a double roller then it will be more to assemble the long block. The money in having an engine built is in the parts. Some shops charge more for labor than others as well.
I left off a couple things it would be more like $1750 now that I look it but not $2500 unless your idea of a long block is different than mine.

We stock & ship 383 short-blocks all the time for less than $3700 & we use all new components. That way you could sell your short-block & make a few hundred bux back in your pocket!
You could also look at a 408 iron block, they start at $3500 bux & are typically in stock & ready to ship! Who wants to wait 4 weeks shipping parts everywhere hoping for the machine work to be done when we can ship you a short-block asap!!
I know the 408 is based off a heavier iron block but the power potential from the bigger bore & stroke easily out performs the 383 from the testing we've done....

Thats all great to know but i already bought all the parts for my short block. And do you guys offer any warranties on the engines you build. The reason why I wanted to go to this shop that charged me 3700 for assembly to long block form is becasue they are close to my house and they stand by their engine for at least a year. I figured if anything went wrong I could just bring my engine down and they could fix it for me instead of shipping it back out to someone.

Racing engine warranties...LOL
We do not control anything once is leaves the shop and the very nature of a racing engine is to abuse it. We gauranty our work and quality of it. If something we did was incorrect we will of course honor that. We dont not cover problems caused by mis tuning, lack of oil or coolant, detonation, etc.
