Question Reinstalling stock rockers on new heads

Fellas, when I reinstall my stock rockers/ chrome moly stock length pushrods on my new ported 243 heads, is it as simple as just putting all the pushrods in the holes and making a first pass at 20 lb.-ft., and then a second pass to 24 lb.-ft. (as Jmx explained)?

I'm not exactly a mechanical genius, more of a dot-to-dot guy, and this is something well within my reach, but is this a careless sloppy way of setting up the valvetrain? I know that Jmx's install document for Yella Terras is a little more involved, but is that because it needs to be determined whether or not to shim them?

How would you guys go about reinstalling your stock rockers on your new heads? Thanks.

BTW, the heads aren't milled, just leveled with a 64cc chamber and TR224/112 cam. So I should be all right with the stock length PRs?

stock push rod length is fine. When i am reinstalling my stock rockers. I do the step torqued sequence then once they are all torqued i will put the crank pully bolt it and rotate the engine and check the torque of each rocker with no tention from that rocker on the springs.

Excellent, I think I can handle that. That insures that the torque value isn't skewed by the spring tension? Glad to hear about the stock PR length being okay. Thankyou.

That's awesome because I never would have thought of it, and it makes perfect sense after you mentioned it. That's why I posted, hoping for a golden nugget like that. Thanks! Appreciate it!!

That's what I normally do. Torque them & rotate the engine and do it again.

Dave, I'm not surprised to hear that from you. You really seem to have your stuff together.

Maybe you could hit me up with some tuning tips after I get these heads, LTs and UD pulley installed. All I have planned is to check LTFTs first thing and get them slightly negative, then install the LM-1 and get WOT a/f around 13/1. I should be okay with idle (I hope) since it's been tuned after my cam install, and it's been good. I'm thinking maybe drop timing back to 24 or 26 at WOT. But I should probably start another thread later.
