Default RollMaster timing chain owners inside!

I put my Rollmaster timing chain on last night, and it was VERY tight. How tight were yours and how difficult were they to get on? Should I be worried?

my rollmaster was pretty tight as well. i think that is the way they are just supposed to be. that way they are more accurate. i read somewhere that the reason that the stock chain has so much slack is becuase it is installed by robots, and they need the extra slack. i think you're probably fine, but someone else will chime in that knows for sure.

You're right about that, also due to its thickness extra play is not appropriate.
i read somewhere that the reason that the stock chain has so much slack is because it is installed by robots, and they need the extra slack.
It has slack in order to be gentle on the front cam bearings and was designed as such. The LS1 being relatively young, more and more Double rollers are seing excessive bearing wear due to its tightness.

All I can say is that the GM stock chain, or a single roller is more than adequate to get the job done. There has been companies like Lingenfelter using stock GM chains on their turbo 700hp applications, also GM C5R at le Mans, believe it or not.

I installed a single non-adjustable Rollmaster timing set (purchased from Australia) on my 98. Seemed to have about the same slack as the stock chain. Maybe slightly less.

Dont worry about it being too tight, it's ok. The real pressure on the cam bearings comes from the pressure of the aftermarket valve springs. Just make sure you have some assy lube with moly in it on the cam.

it should be that way....tight = no slack = good valve timming

It was a pain to put on due to its tightness, but no modifications were needed to get it installed.
