ASP pulley and double roller timing chain is a no no??
I just got my ASP pulley in yesterday and the install instructions that came with it said in bold print not to use with a double roller timing chain? Is this something new or has no one paid any attention to it? I never heard of anyone talking about it on the board so it might not be something to worry about or is it!
I run a stock timing chain so i am not concerned but i see alot of people switching to the double timing chains and figured i would post what i saw.

I am using a rollmaster and a asp pully. The only thing you may have to do is get the pully turned a few thousands on the tappered edge if the pully hits the oil pump.

i run it with no problems at all. there have been a few people however that had to get an area of their pulley machined in order for it to work. there have also been people, like myself, that didn't have to do anything for it to work. so, i'm not sure what the deal is. maybe they're just trying to be extra careful about this.

The clearance is incredibly close. I installed an ASP pulley with my double roller because the wrong timing set was sent to me when I did heads/cam. I took it apart afterwards to make sure there was no interference. Man its close, but mine worked out-barely......
Seems like there is enough stack up tolerances to make some work and others not, a crap shoot really.

my double chain (rollermaster) and ASP Pulley went on fine... I had it machined to be safe (30 bux to have it machined) but after installing and looking at it, I don't think it was really necessary...

I have the Rollmaster double and didn't have the pulley machined. No problems yet <knocks on wood>.
One question: Why doesn't the stock pulley need to be machined after a double roller chain? I ran the stock pulley after my cam and chain swap for about 6 months w/no issues.

Talk to the guys at LS1SPEED. They will tell you that the pulley needs to be machined in order to fit properly with a double roller. They sell one already machined for $20 or $30 extra bucks.

Adding a washer, it would have to be very thin and fit exactly right or you will basically pull the pulley out of its alignment and may end up throwing belts. if the end is machined, then it will sit out away from the block in the same location it was made to!

Where can one machine an ASP pulley locally? I'm planning on buying a pulley, but wouldn't know where to take it to have it machined.

Adding a washer to the crank bolt would NOT work. You could add a washer to the crankshaft. This would have to be a precision washer made just for this application. The ID would have to be the same as the crankshaft and the OD would have to be the same as the ASP Pully hub boss which needs to be machined. If this washer was used it would have to buck up against the oil pump DRIVE gear. I don't like the sound of this washer idea. Much easier to just maching the ASP Pulley. I machined mine on my neighbors lathe in about 15 mins. Actually you don't necessarily have to machine the ASP Pulley. You can be SURE by doing a TEST FIT. Just install the pulley with the cover removed to see if the ASP Pulley hub boss touches the oil pump cover face at any point before it bucks up against the oil pump DRIVE gear. If it does NOT your OK. If it touches you need to visit a machinist.

Could someone post the specs for machining the ASP pulley (i.e. how much material to remove, etc.). I am gathering my parts for a H/C swap and would like to get the pulley machined before I take the car for installation.
