Default LS6 Cam in a LS1

I'm tying to do a cam and lifter swap on my 99 SS and don't want to spend to much money but gain a little bit more hp over stock. Is the 2003 Zo6 setup a good choice to choose and if so. Where can i find one at a reasonable price?

I agree. That isn't a big enough cam and you probably wouldn't be happy.

How cheap are you trying to go here? If you're trying to go super cheap (like a couple hundred bucks max) then sure the LS6 cam will help a little but not a whole lot. It's a combination of the cam, heads, and exhaust that made the LS6 have more power than the LS1. You can get a small cam like a 224 that's going to be very tame but show a lot more power than the LS6 cam. I would go 224 cam with comp 918's and hardenend pushrods. You shouldn't need new lifters.

I agree with the guys ubove. In my first setup I had a 224/568/112lsa and after a week I wished i would have cowboyed up and got something bigger but I'm a power junky. so to each there own. What I'm saying is if your buying a new cam/springs/pushrods spend alittle more money on the cam part and get a custom grind.

if i were u id get a 224/224 114lsa from thunder racing or another one of our vendors. the cam is only gonna be 150-200 more then the z06 cam, but while your in there why not go with a cam that will give you more power, is tried and true for daily drivers, and puts out great numbers. thats chump change for a huge difference in power.

theres nothing wrong with the ls6 cam for example it has a very nice power curve so that ur not up into 6500 just too peak .the ls6 responds very well too "giggle gas" and is proven too give u 15-20 hp with a decent tune not too mention unlike others its proven too get really bomb gas milage unlike my current cam that i ve got in a tr224/112 if ur intrested in a ls6 cam ive got a new one that is in my stash from 02-04 ls6 ill let 1 go shipped too ur door for $115 just send me a pm

If you want a cam that sounds stock and has more power above 3500 rpm than a stock cam and is gas friendly, than The ls6 cam is ok for you. That's what I was going to buy.I thought about I for a while and checked into all the cams I could find.I wanted to make 400 rwhp without going too big or small of a cam.I ended up with a comp custom grind 224/224 561/561 @115 lsa. It's a nice all around good drivable cam. It's your car and you have to make yourself happy in the end.Take your time and think about what your goals are before you make your choice.Their are a lot of people who have ls6 cams and are happy with them.

The ls6 cam with some 1.8 rockers makes for a nice little sleeper setup. Throw a hidden dry shot into the mix and you have a stock sounding/acting car that flies.

i would also get something better, you can get a super streetable, even one that really has no lope at all...and be worlds ahead of Z06 cam, its still a stock cam after all...just think how much work it is to even put the cam in..make it worth it!

Thanks guys for the inputs and yeah that would be a waste of money for just a little bit of hp gain (if any). I'll call T.S. today and ask about one of their custom grinds or their 224/224 566/566 @ 114 LSA . My main goal is to create a sleeper with very little idle diffrence and you guys have helped out alot. Once again thanks.
