Default Why we upgrade our valvetrain...

To keep from breaking things when we do dumb things!

Case in point, I was redline 3rd gear, 110 mph and being that I was trying to spice up my long drive since I was falling asleep decided that a WOT run in 3rd would be a good idea. Sleepy driver makes for BAD shift.

I did the 3-2 shift at WOT and saw my RPM gauge lock itself at 7k.

I calmly put it in neutral, let the revs go down, shut off the radio and listened. I found I was slowing down too much so I put it in 6th and listened. I listened to pure sweet LS1 dual spring loving and proceeded to be a dumbass and run WOT 4th

Runs strong, no strange noises and oil pressure is fine. Also my 5.3 Stage 2.5 heads are in so I'm in that let's break it kind of mood hah.

Oh yeah the lesson part, don't skimp out when doing a cam swap! Measure preload, get hardened and proper length pushrods and GOOD springs that will take far more abuse than you "think" you will do.

Good to hear everything is ok. That is one thing I don't miss about my old M6 car, those scary missed shift moments.

That lapse in judgement would have shot me to 8500 rpm... though I'm not sure if I let off completely on the clutch, but since I was hell bent on going into 4th and usually release quick... oh well nothing's broken... I think hah

Next time, place your hand on your shift **** so the palm of your hand is facing the passenger side of the car. It makes it nearly impossible to pull the shifter back into second gear.

Even the rev limiter is a good enough reason to have a strong valve train...I have my limiter set to 6700 RPMs, but I've logged 7000 RPMs at least once when I banged the limiter on a 1-2 shift...the trons just weren't keeping up apparently.
