Not a bad engine, but depending on price an ls1,ls2 or even an LT1 would net way better results. the L98 is about 240 h.p. and about 200 r.w.h.p.
came factory in 86 Corvette and 87-92 camaros,TAs.

It's an LS2 6.0 block with L92 heads and L76/LS3 intake manifold.
Better heads and intake than LS2, but it has a lazy low lift cam and lower compression......hence puts out less power than the LS2.

The L98 could also be considered to be an L76 car engine (not Vortec truck) minus the displacement on demand gear.

They're a great buy as a crate motor as all they really need to wake them up is a decent camshaft and supporting valve spring upgrade.

270 kilowatt = 362.075 964 96 horsepower [international]
530 newton meter = 390.907 938 06 pound foot

There is no need to skim the heads. The difference between 10.4 comp and 10.9 comp with these is just under a 0.030" skim, which results in about 10 to 15 hp. With the large L92 intake valve in a 4" bore the PTV clearance can get tight with even medium sized cams. IMO you're better off leaving the heads unskimmed to allow yourself more freedom with cam choices.

There is no DOD equipment fitted to the L98.

I have a GTO based LS2 on the dyno right now. It's a 24x engine.
I installed a set of LS3 heads and a Lunati 212/218 113 cam.

It's a very mild cam

So far I have only used a 4 barrel intake. I have the L76 bolted up now and should be making pulls this weekend.

The Carb Manifold and a set of 1 3/4" F Body Hooker Headers made a peak of 530 horsepower.

As mild as that cam s I don't think that I will lose much from the L76 intake. It should move the peak horsepower down a bit in the RPM range.

I was suprised that it made that much power. So suprised that I am putting my LS3 back on the dyno to figure out why it was only 15 horsepower more with more compression, cam and cubic inches.

Never heard of such an engine but I did research the link posted and was shocked. The engine used in the third gen camaros and TA and older Vettes had the L98 and it was the TPI 350. Never knew G.M. to reuse engine names before. Guess the Aussies can?

LS7

LS7 can also refer to a 454 CID Chevrolet Big-Block engine of the 1970s

LOL, yeah finally got back today. Made a few pulls and intereting. Peak is less than I had hoped (aren't they all) but where I really expected. It had a peak of 515. It was flat at the 6200 range but the average torque was up 20. I have a little more to try tomorow so I will report more then. Torque was over 480 so that should be very fun to drive.

More later.

Robin
