Sounds like your talking about the crank pulley instead of the water pump?

It's not supposed to come off without completely taking the water pump apart. If you need the original inlet location of the LS3 water pump you can remove the old pulley with a 3 jaw puller. I've done it on LS1 water pumps. I had to destroy the old one by cutting slots in the pulley base to get the puller on it, then sliced up the side of it. Truck pulleys come off with just the puller.
To press a new one on you have to remove the back plate and and support the shaft. Otherwise you'll just press the shaft through the impeller.

Sounds like the only option for keeping the outlet in the same location. Im going to have the motor in the car soon, if the ls1 location will work i will go that route (thanks diet coke). I think Im going to try the puller method for now what the heck cant use this one anyway im going to get a bigger puller and cut the bell great idea.
