HELP! LS7 Low Oil Pressure
We just installed a new built LS7 built motor. The vehicle wasn't used at all and only was used for less than a mile. It was built by a reputable sponsor. When the vehicle is cold, it starts with pressure over 40psi and when it warms up a bit, it keeps going down until it almost reaches a bit over 20psi. When its driven for a bit its 30-35psi and it idles on almost 18-19psi. Its not fluctuating. It goes down when the oil reaches its operating temperature. A mechanical gauge was also installed and reads exactly the same as my stock one
We've cut the oil filter and there aren't any big flakes, just some debris which the builder says is normal. The oil pump is new and all break-in instructions were followed strictly and break-in oil was also used.
The shop that installed the motor insists its a bearing issue and the builder insists its an o-ring mistinstallation issue.
All input is appreciated.
To clarify, the sponsor has stood up with me from the beginning of the build until now and it has been more than great dealing with them and they do stand behind their product. I'm not posting to hurt anyone's reputation but only to resolve my problem

Just did a new LS 7 build. Have a Melling HP pump. Pre-primed the engine and first start saw 55+ pounds within 2 secs.
Now with 1,000 miles, first start see 60 plus cold idle and when 210 degrees see 48 psi idle going to 60-65 psi.
Is the oil barbell in? When you drop the filter, I think can see the white shaft thru the hole. If its there, then maybe the O ring install on the pump is bad.
About all I can help you with. All our bearing clearances meet factory specs.
good luck.

The sponsor says its 99% not a motor issue while the shop says otherwise. We will see this week when the shop checks the o-ring, only then it is time to know who to blame. It was bought for a premium price so if something like bearing clearance was the problem, this would really be a bad situation.
Only waiting for the best now.
Thanks Everyone.

Still haven't got a chance to look at the motor. The shop is loaded and the nationals are close. I think it would be another week.
All input is appreciated, Let me know what you think or predict.

Are you sure it should idle like that?. I have a ported LS6 oil pump which marketed to raise the pressure by 10psi at all RPM's. I don't want to worry about it but I'm still very worried and the shop hasn't diagnosed it yet due to the volume of work they have.
All input is very much appreciated and I have posted this thread for HELP.
Just for the record. It has 11:5 compression and a 23x/23x cam with 114LSA. The shop owner(tuner) insists there's a problem and doesn't want me to leave with this problem.

Just so everyone knows, The sponsor is standing 100% behind their product and I didn't start this thread to bash anyone, just to find the problem and get your suggestions. The sponsor had told me and is really with me until the motor gets going right. I don't want to hurt their reputation and I believe in them and their great product and have dealt with them in the past and will continue dealing with them.

Good news. The motor is fine and the o-ring is fine. The problem was caused by the oil restrictor on the back of the block. Not a big deal. Gotta love faithful shops and faithful sponsors.
Thanks everyone for the help
