No one has built a 408 with anything light weight

If you are going to spend the money to worry about things like that, anyone can make you the lightweight parts.

Sonny Bryant, Bill Miller (BME), Scat, Lunati... any of them can build you an ultralight crankshaft, billet with all the good stuff.

rods, I prefer MGP Aluminum, but GRP, BME, any of them can build a pro stock ultralight rods for n/a....

pistons, same thing JE, RaceTec, Mahle, Diamond, SRP, Wiseco, etc etc...

with a 4in stroke, 6.125 rod, you'll end up with a 1.12 ish compression height and if they make a hollow dome, 2 ring pack design, etc etc...

you can have a piston made under 400grams..

my 404 pistons have a solid dome and are not full throw me down n/a pistons, but they weigh 425 grams.

for 7200 you should really worry about valvetrain long before you worry about lightweight rotating parts. I recently dynoed a 414 LS7 headed motor that would turn 7200 all day long with no problems. The internals were just a normal compstar crank and rods, with wiseco shelf pistons, nothing tricky about it at all.

Yep lighter parts just allow the engine to pickup rpm faster but all the normal popular LS1 stuff on the market will turn 8000 rpm no big deal.

So it just needs the .030 and that's all. What is the size of the stock stroke? Would it be a good idea to remove material from inside of the block anyways?

Stock crank is 3.622" stroke. Do not remove material if it is not needed.

How hard would it be if later on I decide to go boosted to switch everything over? Could I just change pistons and switch to a different cam thats better for boost? Switch from like a -2 to a -32 piston? Would that be good enough for say...20psi?

I just had my 6.0L Iron block sonic checked and the guy told me that block had more meat on it than his 454 big block. Another friend of mine built a 416ci out of his 6.0L iron block. That's would be a 4.00" crank 4.00 stroke and a 4.060 bore. 416ci. My motor will be a 4.00 crank 4.00 stroke 4.030 bore 408ci

I believe it would be cheaper, and quite a bit easier to just build for your final goal.

You will probably need to rebalance, due to potential huge differences in piston weight if you do that..
