No i would stay with the 0/40 M1 thats a very good oil. I would only go 20/50 if you road race and oil temp stay higher than normal for a long time because a lack of a oil cooler.

20W50 seems to result in noisy tappets. Engine a lot quieter with the 10W30 or less M1 as recommended by the factory.

As BigRich noted, unless you are getting real hot on a race circuit or something then the 20W50 would be a similar viscosity at the constant higher temps.

On my build I am using a mix of 5-30 and 20-50. The reason is the Valvoline racing oil has alot of zinc in it but I cannot find it in the 10-40. So I mix the 2 so I can have the zinc but thin the oil out a little at the same time. I would not use straight 20-50 unless you have issues you are tyring to resolve like low oil pressure or ecessive bearing clearances.

Default Oil Weight

The LS7 gets 0w-40 Mobile 1 diesel oil, although it can be hard to find sometimes. For the zinc component, Redline (or Comp) break-in additive is used.

The 6.0 (GTO-spec w/hotter cam and 10.9 cr) in my truck gets 5w-30 Mobil 1 with the same zinc additives.

no way dude did you know that a 20w 50 and a 0w 40 have the same viscosity at operating temperatures? the difference is at start up where the 20w50 is thick as hell and cant protect as well.

It's not a big deal if there is another oil thread. I understand that there a MILLION of them but it's not hurting anyone.
GC here, I hear a lot of good things about the 0w-40 stuff from Mobil.
WOW...someone is using the "new" Castrol Edge...wonder how that stuff is. Think with your Dipstick!!!!

Now in all seriousness, if the engineers at GM designed the tolerances for Mobil 1 5w30 why is this a question? Really, i'm not trying to be a smart ***, just want to know since i'm changing my oil asap. Also what oil filter?
