Default to buy or to build an LS2 ?!?!

i originally planned on doing an ls3 for my datsun project but now i'm leaning towards an ls2 but here are my concerns

i can get a pullout ls2 from a gto WITH the t56, wiring, computer for about 4500

OR i can build one from the ground up

i am gonig to run a forged rotating assembly w/ l92 heads (still deciding which intake to run)

would it be cheaper to just buy a block and build from there (i will need EVERYTHING needed to put an ls motor in a non ls including computer and wiring.

or would it be cheaper to do the pullout and swap parts and sell the stock ls2 heads, rotating assembly and intake?

BTW i plan on boring it to match ls3 specs since the stroke on them is the same

Its going to be cheaper and easier in the long run to buy the pull out. If you piece it together it will nickel n dime you to death. Ask me how I know.....

I bought a block from GM several yrs ago and built a 6 liter from the ground up and it ended up costing thru the nose.

That's not the best plan. We've seen the LS2's bored to what we thought was crazy, about 4.040", and live for a while. But at 4.065"+, you're going to have issues!

If it were me I'ld...
Go ahead and get the pullout for $4500 (also get the gas peddle and assembly if possible).
And also look for a L92 from a Yukon or Escalade (for the 4.065" bore block and L92 heads).

Use the LS2 setup in the car to get it up and running (work all of the bugs out of your build up).

Then over time build the L92 up with forged rotating assembly.
Have the heads sent off for a light port work and a set of better springs (maybe even get a set of LS3 valves).
Pick up a LS3 or L76 manifold, maybe even purchase one through LS2portworks (as they sell complete units as well as do core exchanges).

Side notes: If you get a LS3 manifold then one of the connections to the manifold from the LS2 GTO wiring harness will need to be replaced (changed out). If you get the L76 manifold it uses the same connector as the LS2.
If you are going to use the LS2 GTO ECM then the L92/LS3 motor will need a 24x timing gear on the crank.

That is what I would do... but I'm not sane?
