LS6 243 heads
So I have a 98 Formula with 806 heads. I just bought these off of ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...SA%3AUS%3A1123
What do you guys think? They have some small blemishes but I figured that the MLS gasket would fix it. They are alot better than the blemishes I have seen on some and for 350 I would not pass it up.
I intend to replace the springs with the Z06 springs I have in my 806 heads, would you guys advise doing so?
Thanks

They are 243 heads but not LS6 heads. LS6 243s got the lightweight valves and only came on '02-'04 Z06 'Vettes and '04-'05 CTS-Vs. You bought LS2 243s, but still seems like a good deal to me. Just have a machine shop do a cleanup pass on the deck and new/known springs are always a good idea. Good luck,

so i will basically have the same thing if I put the sodium filled valves in there?
How will the performance be as is if I only have the deck cleaned and the springs added?
I believe that they are the same airflow specs with the exception of the valves?

Yes, if you upgrade the valves, you will basically have an LS6 head. It's not a performance upgrade; it's just that your reliability is slightly better and you are less likely to get knocking when there is extreme heat soak in the engine while road racing. If that's not in your repertoire, I would just go with a better spring.
Use an LS7 spring set or aftermarket spring set like those from texas-speed so you can support a high-lift cam. [I happen to have a set of LS7 springs with seat/seals + retainers if you're interested.]
Given that those blems are not on the sealing interface, you might not even need to clean up the deck, but it's certainly not a bad idea.

thanks. I'll prob just upgrade using my ls6 springs. I'm running the ls6 cam and dont plan on taking her fully apart again.
As for the valves, I think ill upgrade them....at least ill feel better about them

Swapping to the 243's over the 806's won't be a huge performance gain, but it will certainly pick up some power. I'm sure you have already thought about needing a pair of center-bolt valve covers and brackets. FYI, we do offer cylinder head porting using customers' existing cylinder heads. We could set them up as a PRC stage 1.0 LS6 cylinder head, which would include full CNC porting, CNC valve job, pressure testing, milling, valve back-cut, and assembly. If you supply the cores, you would be looking at $824.99 + shipping. This would be with you supplying the valve springs for assembly. We can upgrade the heads to a dual spring kit if you'd like. It's completely up to you. Even if you don't want to spend the money on the porting, let us know if we can help you out on any of the items needed for the swap, such as head bolts, gaskets, etc.!

I wont have the money at this time for a port. I would be interedted in getting the covers and a coil bracket.
I've been looking but on ebay ppl want like 75 bucks for the covers and 50 for the brackets.
So if you have a set let me know ur price and hopefully I can get them this week.
When I can save some money I may take you up on the port job. The wife is already bitching that I got the heads.

not all z06 243s came with light weight valves, i think 01 and 02 243s z06 heads didnt come with the lightweight valves.

Edit: I adjusted my original post. '01 Z06s had a less aggressive cam, regular valves, and weaker valvesprings. Thanks for the heads up.
